Water dripping onto engine cover - spark plugs 5&6 rusty

When I pulled my plugs recently it, plugs 5 and 6 were quite rusty. I did a test and poured a jug of water down the windshield with the hood open. It seems some of the water runs right down the center valley on the cowl and under the hvac filter plastic and does not head toward the drain. It then drips onto the part of the engine cover closest to the firewall and spark plugs 5 & 6. This does not seem normal does it? I'm not sure what can be causing it. I don't see any issues with main piece of weather stripping for the cowl. (I am running both stock cowl and engine cover)

I noticed this a few days ago. EXACTLY as described.

In my case 3rd party window guy's Fuq'd up the install, I had to pull both of the covers including the windscreen cowel, they had not fitted the rubbers back, so yes, water was getting in there,

I couldn't work out how the water got UNDER the engine cover from the windscreen, but it must have been.

I'm monitoring mine over the next few weeks, but no rain were I am, to see if that had fixed the issue, I would have thought the water would have evaporated from the heat, but it had been there for a while, as it had shown signs of rust

I'll report back,

BUT FOR SURE, you need to pull the engine tray and the wipers then the windscreen cowl, easy job no specialist tools about a 30 minute job

just reporting back, there is probably another solution, but for the moment I found som black duct table to close a gap on the windscreen cowel, I also put a strip of heatsheild tape on the far end of the vanity cover to act as a drip cover, it's rained a few times, so far so good.

I'm guessing rubber seal somewhere, but the fixes I did can't be seen and I'm actually looking for a different BMW, so for now till I can find the culprit and a fix, I'm leaving as is

So I found the problem in my case. I had taken out the tray (many time) which is under the windscreen which the cabin filter sits on, for some reason, there is a rubber which should fit snugly onto the windscreen cowl, but I had but it on the tray, so whilst it butts up to the windscreen , it allows water to run and drip.

The temp fix was duct tap LOL I then saw a video and realized, wait a minute, that's not how my seal is fitted !

Going out this afternoon to put it on properly ! The bodge I did with heat tape worked but didnt fix the cause !

I had my tray and filter out to replace my eccentric shaft and valve cover gasket. Found rust in the 5th and 6th injector wells and plugs. The decoupling elements from the injectors were absolutely toast. I'm not sure which seal you are talking about as I just put everything back together and still couldn't figure it out. Do you have any photos by chance?

See the attached, I replaced the window gasket but not the other gasket,
sealing strip crossmember 51717163641, it was butchered and not fitted back
properly
there is another gasket where it looks like part 15 but it is on the other side in blue
