Anyone had a blown coolant hose?
I’m planning to replace my thermostat and water pump next month. I’m trying to decide whether or not to replace all my coolant hoses while I’m at it. I only ever had one hose blow on my Prelude and it was probably 15 years old at that point. None of the other hoses ever blew on it during my 22 years of ownership.
How are your coolant hoses holding up? Has anyone had one let go? If so, how old was it and how many miles? Eh, screw it. I'm going to replace all the hoses connected to the thermostat and pump. The cost is minimal and that way if I damage one getting it off, I won't be out of commission.

Yeah, unfortunately it gets a little more expensive when you add all the hoses because some are only available as genuine BMW parts. The main ones are only about $100 (Rein), but adding everything was about $350 total. Ugh!
It's a good thing I plan to keep this car for a very long time. I just wonder if FCP will still be in business or stock these parts the next time they need replacing.

I certainly hope so but have had that same thought when buying things that are likely to be long lived.

I remember reading a few years ago that a company built a Vincent Black Shadow completely from the ground up using nothing but spares. Considering a haggard one can fetch $100k, it's not that crazy of an idea. While not at all cost effective, it would be funny to build an E82 using only FCP parts to see what they'd say every time something failed. You might have a free car for life at that point.

110k+ miles and doing fine. Preventatively replacing a few hoses now though.
