Matte Black Powdercoated 261M Rims
I picked up a set of the 261M sport rims about a month ago from a 1addicts member (Thanks Evan135!!) and decided to get the rims powdercoated matte black. I received a request for pictures so I figured I would start a new thread with a few pictures of the rims.
For those of you in the DC area, the shop I got them done at is Extreme Powder Coating (http://www.extremepowdercoating.com/). I used Google and the Powder Coating Institute (http://www.powdercoating.org/member_dir.php) member list to find potential shops. Total cost was $600 ($150 a rim). This was on the higher end of the quotes I collected but it seemed like the best fit. |

you should see it on my jet black.. you'd love it. add dark space grey roundels and the M// sticker that is missing on ours and it's amazing. To give it a subtle splash of color I painted only the brake rotor hubs and splash guards red and left the calipers in their stock state. The car looks wicked.

Nice. I would've liked to see gunmetal though.

I like them, and was thinking about this for my car. But thats when I noticed the ///M logo was also painted over. Is there a way to keep that visible after powder coating?

I am going to consider hitting a set of winter wheels in matte black. At least you don't have to worry about break dust buildup over time.

The ///M logo has to be removed for powder coating, leaving a depression (otherwise it will melt in the powder coatings process). When I took mine off, the backing was destroyed, so I had to order new ones. They are about $6 each plus shipping from various online sellers.

Not crazy about the matte black on the white, but I bet it looks better in person (it's hard for cameras to accurately capture the full dynamic range of the two extremes - light and dark).
I prefer an OEM look, personally. I think it would help if you switched out your valve stems to black and added the ///M logos back. Just my $0.02.
