The only collectible BMWs are the Z8, some CSLs, and some of the M performance cars post 2002. You have to distinguish between collectible and enthusiast cars.
I wasn’t saying it would be a collector’s car. I’m saying that the manual 135i could someday be desired by enthusiasts, like the 2002 tii or 911, so they’ll have a bit of value down the road.

FWIW, the M2 was the biggest selling M car in 2017 and 2018.

FWIW, you should work on your reading skills. I was replying to Hagerty's absurd observation.

The 2002 was a very popular car during its production years. It has a certain amount of panache due to the novelty of a Sport Coupe. The One series while a very good car, it didn't sell very well. BMW tried a second time with a Two, which hasn't done any better. The car buying public is nutty over SUVs not sporty little coupes.

Will they be more valuable than what we paid for them? Possibly though not likely. The incredible thing about the 1 series is that it is a fantastic daily driver. My 2011 drives today like it is a new car even as it comes up on being 10 years old (build date 9/2010). The ones that are cared for will give pure enjoyment to those that own and drive the well cared for examples for years to come.

Daily driving is where the E82 shines. As a track or autocross car there are better and less expensive cars out there now. That is where the E30, E36 and E46 appear to have credibility and earned their reputation. It is entirely possible that the E82 will be sought after for its elegant timeless design but the reputation for being a daily driver only comes over time as we enthusiasts continue to own and drive them.

The good news is, the cars have yet to appreciate in value. Which means once those who have been sitting on theirs in hopes it will, will have great low mile examples for a bargain to the next owners. Thanks for gambling and loosing guys.

I look at the e82 and e88 as BMW miscellaneous car much like a e21 is viewed cept the 2-Series came along. If BMW had made an amazing next gen 1-Series that sucked all the focus much like the e30 does even still today, it'll still just be a car that was. If my car has amassed value that makes it foolish to drive or I wonder what if I hadn't put miles on it. Who I ask is the fool the person that stored and drove on occasion and owns a invaluable car or myself that drove the poopies out 2 e88's and enjoys every F'n minute of the ride!
