Nice little surprises with the latest DME software update.

I recently had my car (3/08 build) in for service and have since noticed some neat little feature updates. For instance, when there's traffic on my route the nav displays it differently now and instead of auto-rerouting, it gives me the option to select a detour option. I've also noticed the voice behind the nav has much more to say these days.

The other day I had low tire pressure and instead of displaying the low tire hazard light, the display in between the speedo & tach showed an above image of the car with the problem tire highlighted. The nav also displays it differently now. Pretty cool.

Last thing I noticed, which has to do more with the new HPFP, is the sound the FP now makes when unlocking the car in the morning. It's really loud compared to the older version. Anyone else notice this?

Well tomorrow I can tell something about the engine sound because my car is in service for HPFP and other 3 recalls.

New HPFP for a car doesn't show any related problem, I'm not sure about that.

Mine is 2008, March build too.

I noticed that my '08 128i now indicates which tire is low as well. When BMW decides to treat us as adults by displaying the actual psi for each tire, then I'll get excited.

When you turn off the DSC you also get a new icon showing a car skidding instead of the yellow circle with an arrow. But the throttle performance is really much less sharper now. I prefer the old original software. IF only I could have that back. The only way now is a flash tune for me.

Dackelone- can you find the software version. Mine was updated last month and I still have the circle/arrow with the DSC off.

Today my car is returned from the service, and it shows new icon. Exhaust sound is slightly louder than before, but I can't tell anything about acceleration. Personally it feels bit... smooth?

I will drive little bit harder in this weekend.

I can ask the next time I go to my dealer. But last time I asked which version I had... they did not know how to read that info from the key. Then they gave me the wrong number when I posted that info here. Maybe I will ask the tech next time.

I think the easiest way to tell IF you have the latest SW... is IF your turn signals flash when you lock/unlock the car.

Personally... I really wish I did not do this SW update. A flash tune is in my future for sure now. BTW... my car is a 2010 M.Y. (Dec/09 build).

I do not have iDrive on my car. My car never did that before. Only when you leave the headlights on AUTO did the tail lights and orange parking lights & AE come on for a few secs when locking and unlocking the car. Now the urn signals flash. I ahve only seen one other 128i vert do this.

Tom, do you have iDrive or does this display in the instrument panel?

I have iDrive, but I think I recall (how's that for hedging?) seeing it on the instrument panel as well. I had a slow leak in one tire and the warning showed up after I hadn't driven the car for a few weeks.

^^I think it shows it in both places: at the center of teh instrument pannel and also in the iDrive screen. But then again I do not have iDrive on my car. I have yet to test this new TPMS which tells us which tire if flat/low.

I can tell you the more I drive with my SW update the more I hate the way the engine makes power now. I wish I never asked for this update!!!

It really feels like the ecu is keeping the wastegates open most of the time. There is a noticeable lag now. It is not until the engine revs get about 5K that the lag is not so servere. The engine idles smoother and is quieter - but that is not why I bought a 135i! Throttle response is really lacking now. Almost feels like a boost leak or bad BOV on past cars I have had.

I really hope a tune will fix my car to be better than before I had BMW mess with it.

Mine was in this week, after getting an easily repeatable limp mode like feeling, but no check engine light. All you would have to do is give it more than 20% gas and it induced a limp mode like decrease in power and weird throaty exhaust noise.

They:
- Replaced the HPFP to #13-51-7-616-446
- Replaced 3 injectors to #13-53-7-585-261
- Replaced 6 Injector Decoupling Elements to #13-53-7-564-751
- Replaced 2 Coils (no part number given)
- Attempted to load newest firmware, and couldn't, so ordered new ECU and installed
- Most recent firmware flash
- Oil Change

Plus, New Head Unit for the Stereo (when warm, pixels stop lighting up), New Wiper Blades, New Third Brake Light, New Flat Tire monitor Control Unit (under pressure light kept going on).

Result: I don't know about what others are finding, but I have a 01/08 build, and it is like driving a new car again. Throttle response is much better I'm pretty happy.

I got my hpfp recall done 2 weeks ago. Nothing was wrong with the one I had in(my second hpfp).
I will say the new one clearly primes the hpfp because like the op said, its really loud. One thing I did notice is it takes a half a second more of cracking to start.. weird

The lag in the latest software update is really subtle. I had driven my car some 200 km before it really started to bother me. The best way I can describe the "lag" is that before in 2nd or 3rd... when you cracked the gas pedal just 1/4 throttle... the car would MOVE! now you have to give it almost 1/2 throttle before you get the SAME sort of power or push.

Also... when youy get ON and OFF and then back ON the gas... you will feel the lag. Just driving normally... it is hard to feel it. It is when you WANT power NOW... that you can feel the delay. The delay or lag was never there before on my car.

Yep, seems like us early '08 builds are now failing around the same time. What you mentioned with the reduced power under partial throttle happened to me and was linked to bad injectors and hpfp.

I have an autocross on Saturday and will report back. I've been living with a failing HPFP for months now, so it is possible that I just don't remember when it was normal... One thing to note is the HPFP is quite a bit louder on priming (as mentioned), and starting seems instantaneous.

Fortunately, I can't find any difference in start-up. It just instantly start-up without a time lag.
