Well back to the original intent of this thread. On my STI a lot of weight was saved without sacrificing any of the practicality of the car as a DD. Wheels are worth a few pounds per wheel/tire combo. The battery was another 15 to 20 lbs. when I switched to the lightweight batteries available. Another one was the exhaust system by switching from the OEM to an aftermarket one. These mods saved at least 50 lbs and was very easy to install made you car perform better and also looked better.

meistershaft makes a titanium exhaust for our car. I think it goes for around $4k. probably worth about 50 lbs. changing the wheels/tires or seats would be a better dollor/weight ratio but if you have to go for the least weight then you have to spend the bucks

True and I cannot understand why $$$ is it because it was made for a BMW? There are basically no difference in the materials used nor the way these things are produced. not a very good weight to dollar investment. not sure about the performance side though |

some of the $ values put on the BMW stuff is out of this world, however, some other parts are right on par with where they should be for the market... There's some companies out there that look at us like chumps, it's pretty sad.

akra is like the gucci of the car world. you may or may not be getting a better product, but you get that fancy logo. this is not to say akra doesnt make good exhausts, but price increases exponentially when plotted against performance. Its a lot cheaper to make your first 100hp than your last 100hp. Its a lot easier to lose the first 100lbs than the last 100lbs. |

I had an exhaust on my old motorcycle, I had an exhaust on my Vespa (another group that gets taken advantage of considering the price of the vehicle) and I had an exhaust on my WRX. Up pipes, downpipes, and full catback. My intake, up-pipe, and down-pipe were 100% custom made for my car. My catback was carbon fiber and titanium. the Akra exhaust is someone putting a price on something and taking some pretty pictures, and hoping that there's people silly enough to pay the price. And people do for the exclusivity. It's sad. I'm a watch collector and photographer as a hobby, you can see the technology in these things and know why they are the price they are. An exhaust is just a bunch of tubes. When an exhaust costs more then a turbo, something is wrong. |

I've been thinking about going with a lighter weight battery but sounds like not the best idea unless you want to plug it into a maintainer every night. |

On the same token I think the newer 05+ BMW's have to have a specific battery rating because it has to be matched thru the ecu with the alternator for the battery or alternator to last longer. I think this was a move on BMW's part so you would have to buy all the time a BMW battery. I experinced this in my wifes 06' 325i

So do we think this is worth the loss of comfort? Thoughts?
Wasn't this with complete CF body panel replacement?
