So I bought a battery...
61212353808 per Jason at GetBMWParts.com (80AH). This one has BMW stickers all over it, not Exide, and does not have the little eye to show health (through which I can't see anything with my Exide battery anyway). $240. All I need now is the little registration widget from AutoEnginuity (en route).

Interesting. All of our replacement batteries here at Acura come without the eye as well. Not really needed, it only tells you the condition of one cell of the battery anyways.

Could you elaborate on what this is and how it is used, perhaps a link to an article.

https://www.autoenginuity.com/produc.../bmw-sr01.html I do not yet have this, it's en route. But I can tell you it has two buttons and a few LEDs. One button resets oil service, the other registers a new battery. That's all it does, just these two things. Which makes it kind of dumb, but still the lowest price I can find for registering a new battery in an N55 without a phone or tablet. I have been promised (email from AutoEnginuity) this works on an N55 (where the BT Scan Tool does not). The AutoEnginuity Scan Tool will also register a new battery... but I have the BT Tool already and the AutoEnginuity Scan Tool would duplicate most of that at a higher cost. |

Interested to hear about this tool. Would definitely be the cheapest option to code a battery, as long as you are not near a dealer. The dealer I sort of work with charges 0.5 hours to code, or about $60.
I understand MrFabulous you are in a unique situation. |

When using a smart phone, how does it connect to a 135i?

$130 + $240 = $370 if I understand the posts correctly.
My dealer charged $417 installed. Easier at the dealer IMHO for a few more bucks.

This is my one and only DD... and having to schlepp it to any shop and wait, or leave it and get a rental, is something I very much want to avoid. What would be nice would be to find an alternative source for a battery that I do not have to code (lower cost, same physical parameters). That, I don't know how to do.

My factory battery is an 80AH Exide unit, but it has a BMW part number sticker over the top, 61217604815. I cannot find that number anywhere online. But it seems to have been replaced by 61212353808, and Jason at GetBMWParts.com confirms. And so that's what I bought, from a dealer (GetBMWParts can't ship a battery). All I hope and pray is the little widget from AutoEnginuity really works as would the same at a dealer.

I would get the one BMWhat recommends. They sell several on their site, but only one is listed as "reliable". If you have an iPhone, you need the WiFi version. Android can use the Bluetooth version.
