Various 1 series spotted around Phillip Island... Photos
BMW Australia is currently having its dealer launch at Phillip Island, where sales staff and their advertising agency are testing different variants of the 1 series. It runs until Thursday.
I headed to the Phillip Island race circuit where I was hoping to get at least a glimpse of the 1er on the track, knowing that I wouldn't be able to get up close. Just as I was about to pull into the circuit entry, a convoy of cars began to exit... First up was an Alpine White 135i decked out in the performance gear. How excited was I! Following were a few other 1ers, either coupes or convertibles, 135i and 125i variants, as well as some cars they believe will probably compete with the 1. There was a Volvo C30 T5, Nissan 350Z convertible, VW Eos, Audi A3, and a couple of others I didn't really take notice of. I whipped my car around and followed. They made a few stops every 5kms or so and the drivers swapped cars, which gave me a good opportunity to take a few photos. The last time they all pulled over I kept going up to the head of the pack - the 135i performance coupe. I wound my window down and said g'day to the driver, and explained that I'd ordered one and was eagerly awaiting its arrival. He was pretty happy to hear this, and then offered me a closer look at the 135 - made my day! Anyway, here's a few photos. Wish I could've captured the sound as well!

Yeah, I wondered why the diffuser wasn't fitted. The quality of the photos has gone to shit somehow - resolution's bad! I'll try uploading them again...

Reserve the 135 w/Performance. Intel - intelligence; info gleaned from spying.

I know what intel means, but the way you worded your sentence threw me. I read it as you having intel that someone would be buying the performance coupe. You then asked how does one reserve it. I still don't follow. Forgive me, but can you explain what you mean a little better? |

I like the wheels, etc. Only parts I don't like are the pins striping and that dicky skirt with a hole in it. Looks very "ricey" as our Yank friends on this forum call it.

No, I didn't see any 135 verts, but there were heaps more cars at the track. These photos are of just one group that went out and did some road driving. I couldn't get anywhere near the track.

Great job, thanks for these cozza
Spoke to my dealer today. Basically there were no verts in 135 guise down there. Confirmed everything I'd read about the car. He said there was a bit of flex even in the lower specced cars, which doesn't bode well for the handling of the 135 vert.... |

All verts have body flex obviously, and from all the reviews I have read, this one is pretty good. I wouldn't be too worried about it Zuzu.

Thanks for the feedback..As you can understand all the testdrives and photos have been of the 128 verts. Just hoping that it handles just as well as the 135i coupe. The 135i vert carries an extra 110kg ( I think that was the difference ) in weight than the coupe.Obviously all that extra weight has gone into chasis strengthening.
