Please Critque My Opinion on 128i vs 328i etc
I'm planning to configure my 128i with:
- Navigation Package - Premium Package - Comfort Package - USB Audio - Park Distance Control Do you think this configuration will hit $41,000? If so, would you get a base 328i instead? If yes, would you also consider the Mercedes C300 which includes: - Power Seats - Aux Input - Bluetooth - Power-folding exterior mirrors - Sunroof The C300 includes these options in their base which is equal to thousands if these options were added to the 328i. hmmmm decision decisions....:iono: |

loun80 - I think the choice would depend on what you wnat from your car. Personally I want something that gets me as close to Cayman/911 handling (with a bit more practicality) as I can get for about 40K, so I am much more concerned about the car's agility and feelsomeness than I am with interior space, back seat passenger room, cargo space, luxo features. For my requirements, I'd forget the Merc, and also pass on the larger, more luxo-barge 328. I'll be inclined to either go economy with a 128i with sport package, USB, and maybe parking sensor; or splurge on the 135i with the same options. Not sure I need faster than the 128's 6 second 0-60 though no matter how much folks rave about the twin-turbo. Also consider insurance - it could be quite a bit higher for the 135i but brokers won't be able to determine that until the cars go on sale.

I think I would also go with the 128 with a few options versus the 328 or C300. Car and Driver did a good test drive comparing the 328, C300, G35, and the CTS and the C300 came in at the bottom. While the C300 is pretty well equipped standard, I do'nt think it has the same attention to driving characteristics that the 328 or 128 would have.
Between the 128 and 328 though I guess its just a question of what you need, if its just you and one passenger most of the time then go for the 128 with plenty of options, if you have a family, go with the base 328... If you're looking at about $41k though, you're also getting pretty close to a base 135 in Cdn pricing I think (we'll see when it comes out). Is that a consideration? |

Thanks for all your comments. Road Runner: I think the 128i is plenty power for me so no 135i. I rather have a 128i with the fancy options. You guys have any idea when pricing is coming out? I went to the dealer today again and still no word out here on the West Coast.

I think $41k for the 135 is (unfortunately) too low, given the $53k CAD for the 335i coupe, and the $5k US difference in 135-128 US prices - I'd guess $43k. It is true that the sunroof isn't part of the base model up here, but we do get the heated seats which the US doesn't.
