You do know that the ipod can be used as a self powered hdd, not just as an ipod?

Smarm - it does! I was extremely impressed at just how well the Iphone compatibility is!
I'm also using a separate iPod to avoid the need to plug / unplug the phone every time I get in and out of the car. |

Jeff, sure. Download foobar2000, install it.
Locate your music, right click on the top of the change of folders that says ALL MUSIC, select CONVERT, CONVERT TO, then follow the prompts.. I did this for all my albums with ease.. Cheers Kris |

The main issue with iPod connectivity, mac or pc, is the DRM associated with anything purchased from iTunes.
You cannot run straight from dock connector to USB port in the car because those tracks will not play. That's why you need the "Combo" cable with the integrated AUX port that carries the sound. iPhone integration is very good (with Pro Nav). Occasional crackle, with may be related to bluetooth reception. Agree that plug/unplugging the phone is a hassle, so best combo is probably an iPod/USB drive plugged in and phone in pocket. I must admit, I thought iPod integration was standard on the 135, which should include the cable.

No idea why people would buy from Itunes, whats the point of buying poor quality mp3s that you cant play properly.
I would buy online if you could purchase DRM free FLAC files, now that is worthwhile. Seems pointless to play lossy poor quality files on the Pro HiFi... As soon as they release rockbox for Ipod classic, ill use strictly flac. The only Mp3 music I have is for the the car... |

I have the $700 iPod integration kit in my 130i but have specified the AUX port (think its std) in the 135i. If you use a USB stick, do the mp3s need to be in a special directory or just stored in the root directory? Do they need to be in a certain format ie bitrate etc? Thanks in advance.

The BMW standard 135i stereo played back mp3s @ 320kbps fine from a usb key I had on the weekend. You plug it in, it recognises the name of the stick, scans the tracks and away you go... very easy and painfree.

<artist name>/<album name>/<track names> I also had a playlist for each album at the root of the stick. Worked well. The test drive car had business nav (no DVD though) and HIFI upgrade, I believe, but not the Pro. I could feel the thumping bass from below the seat. If MJair is around (which, hopefully, he isn't), no comments about my taste in music :w00t: |
