Can easily see how that's done.
I'm still getting used to driving a powerful RWD car, turning off all traction/stability controls in the wet certainly makes things interesting. |

It's very easy to do in a 1M. Turbo torque / power delivery can catch you out unlike the slower build up in, dare I say it, an atmo engine like an M3 which is far more predictable and controllable.
I doubt he would have spun like that in MDM mode; MDM would cut the power with that much slip detected; it can be quite intrusive. Most likely had DSC off and thought he would show everyone how to drift. Instead he showed them how to crash three cars whilst going sideways in slow moving traffic...cool! As a side issue, I find the MDM mode a little inconsistent. Sometimes it allows a fair amount of slip, ( much more than my 335i ), and at other times it intervenes quite aggressively. I suspect that it works more aggressively on lateral slip and less so on linear ( for want of a better definition ) slip. I have spun the wheels a lot in a straight line, not full smoky burnouts but certainly enough to leave two long black lines, but it won't let me get sideways. Probably a good thing in my case. Though even in MDM you can feel just how quickly it wants to step out. Edit - I may have just contradicted myself given what I wrote about Mr Hong Kong. Expect more crashes. Nice video, thanks Trexx.
Interesting point Gazz. Conversely I am noticing the loss of traction (intermediate/MDM setting) more on cornering than with linear acceleration/deceleration. May be due to poor judgement (track conditions) or fear of oversteer, but it certainly weighs on my mind when cornering. |

One thing I know is the 1M needs to be treated with respect especially when wet. Sudden acceleration in 2nd with even a small bend in the rain will let you slip.
Hope he learnt what is called right foot modulation now. He probably have everything off, but his reaction is a bit slow. The 1M communicates very well and doesn't tend to snap in wet conditions. I think he is just inexperience and not expecting it. It did remind me of the mark webber spin in Korea.
