Dealership problem with my headlights

In May, I had to change the headlight bulbs on my car. I can get the two main clamps on the backing, but not the inner smaller clamps.

When I ran the car through the car wash, the lights stopped working.

The lights would start working again within three days.

So I stopped Going through the car wash.

I went in for a recall three weeks ago. I asked for a favor: could they fasten the small clips for me so I could take the car through a car wash. They said yes.

I picked up the car, and ran it to the car wash the next day. Negative headlight function afterwards. And they didn't come back on three days later like they had the time before. It turns out the small clamps were never fastened on the assembly.
The dealership says the both headlight assemblies are now dead, and one $3000 to fix.

Should I demand they fix the headlights on their own? The things worked when I brought them in. But then again, I was asking for a favor for them to do, they simply didn't do that favor, even though I thought they had.

They said one was broken. But that was not communicated to me. I thought they were fastened.

That is a great idea! I'm gonna go in tomorrow and talk to the billing department, ask for my receipt for my last visit. Before I talk to anybody else.

I fail to see how this is the dealership's fault - you didn't fasten the clips. You asked for a "favor" for them to do it, but they (shockingly) didn't, but just because you asked for a favor doesn't automatically make them liable for something you ultimately failed to do.

But they said they did. If they weren't going to do it, they should've said so. But they said they would.
