135i and my mods
My 135i finally arrives at the dealer by Friday!
I like to add a mix of performance, appearance, and comfort mods to my vehicles. If anyone is interested, here are the mods that I will be putting on the car as they arrive. I will try to document and post as stuff goes on. - Turbo Tuner (ordered from Eurobahn; tentatively planning to have Jeff install at Bimmerfest) - BMW Performance tii wheels (ordered from Leith BMW; hoping they ship this week) - BMW Performance exhaust (ordered from Leith BMW; hoping it ships in May) - aluminum pedals, incl. dead pedal (ordered from Leith BMW) - Euro headlight switch; adds rear foglights (ordered from LeatherZ) - Center console parcel net (arrived from LeatherZ) - Matched-paint license plate frame, with NO branding (arrived from Bimmian) - Rad wheel locks (arrived from Bimmian) - High-Gloss Black Selector Lever (ordered from United BMW) - High-Gloss Black Brake Handle (ordered from United BMW) - Streamline SE filter (Pre-ordered from Helene Performance) One remaining piece I really want and can't seem to get any fixed info about is the BMW Performance intake. If you know of a retailer who has a part number for this and knows how to get one here soon, please PM me! [Moderators: If this posting is in the wrong section, please forgive and move to the right place]

Man, not wasting any time huh. You should definitely post up some pictures once you have the parts installed.
What about suspension bits? I think springs or KW coilovers would help the look a lot. |

Otherwise, I am waiting for a few months to see who jumps into market for 1-series suspension upgrades and to see what comes available.

KW makes some good stuff. I'm sure there's more technical information floating around, but to sum it up, for streetability, you'd want progressive springs, and for track you linear. And the height, and dampening adjustability on the KW V2's are great as well. |

I was really on the fence about getting KW coilovers or the H&R sport springs. I went with the later, and I think they work great.
It will be nice to see another 1er in San Fran....haven't seen one on the road yet.

Banduncadonk, I must say man. Your username cracks me up. I here the word used all the time, but the spelling is just as funny. Oh yeah, your 1 might need a flux capacitor to accommodate your mods!!

Can someone clue me in to how to get KW Variant 2 coilovers for the 135i in the States? I can read German and checked them out on KW's site, but I don't want to spend several hundred dollars shipping them from der Vaterland--at least if I don't have to. Does anyone have swaybar sourcing tips? Again, saw some options on German sites, but haven't seen any U.S. retailers selling them.

Thanks, ichiban--you are awesome!
I just sent an email to Gravity for info on the KW Variant 2 and Variant 3, along with the H&R swaybars. Looking forward to putting some combo on my ride! Any NorCal 1addicts got recs for where I can get high-quality, performance suspension work done? Quote:

Just ordered H&R swaybars and KW Variant 2 coilovers.
And, thanks to ichiban, have appointment to get clear-bra treatment before I take off on cross-country 135i trip and donate my paint-job to the Mississippi & Arkansas highways. Escort SRX going in the car next week, too. Only thing left on my list is the BMW Performance intake!

So are you adding all these mods to your 135i yourself? Or are you having it done somewhere? Just curious how much labor is involved in these kinds of mods. I'm not much of a car guy, so for me I'd have to have these sorts of things done by a shop, which I'm guessing would get really expensive.

Most of the mods listed are fairly easy to perform at home. If you do a bit of reading and find some extensive DIYs (do it yourself writeups), and there ARE PLENTY of extensive DIYs, you should be able to perform it.

Hi, Dan.
Some of the small stuff I will do myself, but otherwise I will support the local economy. I frankly don't have time to do a good job on car projects anymore. (I used to restore Mustangs.) Quote:

Hi, Jewpac.
I actually just picked my car up at 6 p.m. tonight! It was on the Don Juan.
