Weird paint chip. My fault or defective paint?

So this weekend I was washing my yesterday and while trying to dry water stuck between the hood and the kidney grills, my fingernail caught some of the paint on the edge of the hood and left an ugly chip. (For those wondering, I have short nails and always keeps them short)

I've tried the touch up paint but I'm not a pro, so it doesn't blend in very well. I ordered some Langka blob removal to remove the touch up paint and try Dr. Color Chip to see if I get better results with that. Otherwise I may have to go see a pro.

I've attached a pic of the chip that I took right after it happened. I'm already over the chip and I've blamed myself. Next time I dry my car I will wear gloves. But everyone I've told this story to finds it's weird that my fingernail could have just chipped the paint off that easily. Could this mean that my paint is somehow defective or fragile?

I would bet that it's a rock chip that was there before.

Yeah I agree probably a rock chip that you caught the end of and took off a little more paint

Yeah, that's one of the theories I had. I'll just be extra careful next time around the edge of the hood. I'm still waiting on my Langka and Dr Color Chip and will let you guys know how that works out.

I have Montego Blue and have about 10 of those suckers on my hood. It is so disgusting that I hate looking at my car up close. I was even more lucky to receive a few of them on each door panel. I have never had a car do this b4. I think we have some shi*** paint if you ask me.

A clear bra really helps out. I had one on my GTI and it saved the front end
