BMW 1M pop and half power
Hi all. New 1m purchase. Just went for a drive heard a pop and now 1/2 power and engine light. I don’t have a obd reader. Would this be the charge pipe or is there something else to look at? Also any recommendations in uk for a scan tool that could read this. Help? And thanks

I see waffle in that photo. Either exploded CP IM or DV debris. Should be really obvious.

Thanks Shocknawe.
Managed to use a video late last night, and can see the Charge pipe clip and top looks blown. I still have warranty, assume this will not be covered? Should I go for stock or any recommendations for Masata or MTC based in London uk. Thanks |

If you don’t have warranty and are paying to replace it, definitely go aftermarket or it will just happen again. I replaced mine before it broke because I do track days.

Any metal chargepipe wlil be an improvement but fitment will never be quite as good as OEM. Masata and MTC are not common brands in US (here you see a lot of ER, VRSF, Burger, Cobb.) Be sure to save and reuse the original C-clip as well as the O-ring inside the stock CP where it attaches to the throttle body. Good luck and please report back. |

You need a new charge pipe. Pull the clip off and save it.
I'd recommend a charge pipe from evolution race works if they still make them. Mitsubishi Evo diverter valves are better than stock, I use a GFB 50mm blow off which is adjustable to the variable vacuum our cars produce. Or just replace it with stock if that's free and worry about aftermarket when your warranty is up.

Thanks. That evolution race works pipe is still available and does look ace. One thing I have noticed on the 1m is there is another part attached which looks like another vent. Any idea what it is?

Is that a photo of your stock one?
Because your prior photos, although poor don't even look stock which may as you presume affect your warranty claim. FWIW, I had equivalent CPO (warranty/consumer guarantees in each country will be different) and blew the CP within 2 weeks. Was towed and replaced with another stock unit free. I yanked it out and replaced it with an older CP version.

Hi Gmx, thanks for the info, yes all completely stock, car is original. And it looks like it has been leaking boost for a while. Looking forward to getting it fixed. Will be trying the dealers this week to see about the warranty. Thanks
