Paint Scratch Repair Cost
A man driving a Chevy Volt reversed into me going at a very slow speed (under 5mph). His rear bumper on the driver side snapped off and had a few scratches.
I received a slight scratch on my front bumper on the passenger side. Does anyone have an estimate on how much it would cost to fix this? Will touch up be enough for this? I called BMW in Mountain View and they said it would cost $800... |

why should the price matter, the guy hit you, he should be paying. Take it to a dealership and get it OEM repaired

try to find a reputable shop in your area that works on BMWs. It should not cost you more than $300. try posting in your Regional forum.

I paid $625 to have this scratch fixed: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showp...4&postcount=25
Got multiple quotes at the top shops and all were over $600 to do it right. Last edited by jkoral; 12-22-2011 at 07:56 PM.. Reason: Forgot link |

I'm in a situation due to 2 horrendous bb pellet - sized stone chips on my hood. My car is light blue -"blue water metallic" . BMW factory touch up paint doesn't match. Looks terrible.
I may have to repaint the hood. The new stone chip caused a micro-sized stress crack on the outside of the stone chip. I don't want to re-paint the hood but I think I have to. The car has only 10,000 miles so it makes me sick to my stomach. Repainting the hood is a dilemma in itself. WILL the paint match!? Probably not. Doesn't matter how good the shop is.

Don't know if this will help, but the body shop I go to can get that fixed for $250 CAD (just another estimate).

Let the guy pay to have the whole bumper repainted. The impact definitely flexed that corner and your paint will begin to crack in time. $800 isn't too unreasonable from a high end auto body shop, which is where you should be going anyway. Don't go to BMW.

I agree. Get the whole bumper painted.

Are you sure that it can't be removed with compound? Give the bumper a good clean and see if that "scratch" is actually paint from the other car.
Also, I hate to go against the grain here, but wouldn't a little touch-up paint (carefully applied, mind you) and time to forget it be a more reasonable move? $800 seems like a lot and to redo the whole bumper seems like overkill. I'm sure you'll find other dings and scratches on her from daily driving, you don't want to redo the whole panel for each of those, do you? |

Applying touch up paint will look like, a bumper with touch up paint on it. I'm a paint

to me it looks like it can be buffed out. if you see that the scratches are down to the plastic it has to be repainted.. find a detailer to take a look at it if you can...

$800 sounds about right if this includes removing, prepping, painting and reinstalling the entire cover. The great majority of shops prefer to do this instead of just touching up deep scratches.

If it's the other person's fault, just get OEM paint from the dealer like someone said here. Any other paint at any other body shops will peel off and stuff in 3-5 years. (I know from personal experience) That is unless you know a very reputable body shop that uses good paints. |
