#@!% Not having a TGIF Friday...

So, after waking up this morning to a somewhat dirty car, I decided to stop by a gas station for a quick wash. On my way to work, I drove into the Shell on Hwy7 and Leslie area, filled her up and got a touchless wash. Knowing I have my winters on, running through the rails wouldn't be an issue.

I got out of my car at work, and noticed this....

It looks like the clear coat was ripped from the high pressure rinse.

I have people to telling me to go back to Shell, and I have people telling me to go to BMW. Kind of confused, and wondering how often this happens...

Also wondering if fixing this will be coming out of my pocket

I can tell you BMW won't do anything, they'll think of a million reasons why it was your fault. I had something similar happen to me. Car Washes also have "use at your own risk" signs all over too. Sorry about your luck

Oh god, I use the car wash on HW7 and Leslie too (16th and Leslie) to be more precise. The pressure nozzle is VERY close too your car.

I know which one you're talking about. The one I went to this morning was the one on Hwy7, further West of West Beaver Creek. Right across from McDonalds.

Still steaming from this.

Does anybody know whether this is covered under BMW's Limited Rust Perforation Warranty? It states on their website:

Quote:
BMW Canada Inc. (BMW Canada) warrants to the first retail purchaser, and each subsequent purchaser, that this vehicle shall remain free of defects in materials or workmanship which results in rust ** “perforation” of the vehicle body.

Well your bumper isn't metal... so it can't rust. Also "perforation" means there has to be a hole from one side of the body panel to the other because of the rust eating all the way through.

Get it fixed then take the car wash to small claims court. This should not happen. Its the car wash not BMW.

Go to the car wash BEFORE you get it fixed. If they point to the sign that says they're not liable for damages, just laugh. It's not legally enforceable. Of course, you're going to have a tough time proving it happened there - and now that you've waited, it's going to be even more difficult.

A shell gas station scratched my rim once. Their insurance paid for it. Try talking to the station owner and ask for contact.

But then again... It's been two days. I don't know if it's too late....

I hope that u can produce evidence

1. U have been there on that day with a receipt
2. U talked to somebody that night about it. Eg. Your insurance company

The station may even have a video that shows before and after of your car.

Thanks for the input fellas. I've fired off a formal complaint via email to Shell, and waiting on a response.

Quote:
My name is ___________ and I would like to formally file a complaint. I’ve been to many car washes, but on Friday November 18, 2011 I took my vehicle in around 7:00 am for a wash to the location on:

408 Hwy 7 East and Valleymede
Richmondhill, Ontario
L4B 1A7 Canada.

I was expecting nothing less than a clean car after the wash, since I’ve purchased the top of the line car wash, “Ultimate Plus Wash”. I’ve never needed to complain about my experience with Shell, and I only use Shell gasoline for my vehicle. After seeing what has happened with the front bumper of my vehicle, I was compelled to file a complaint. A layer of clear coat has been ripped off on a small area on my front bumper, due to the high pressure rinse. I have taken photos of the result, and have kept the receipt from which I paid.

I am kindly asking for a quick resolution to this problem before it gets any further. I strongly believe that I should not be responsible for the repairs due to my experience on November 18, 2011 at the location mentioned above. I look forward to hearing from you, and work towards solution.

Regards,

_______________
I'm not really expecting much, but seriously steaming from this experience especially since I haven't owned the vehicle for more than 2 months and love the car to death. I just want to keep it in pristine condition, and having this happen because of a car wash, sucks monkey balls.

So I got a reply to the email. Looks like corporate is willing to help, but I would have to go to their retailer first. Here was their reply:

Quote:
Dear __________,

Thank you for taking the time to contact the Shell Customer Service Centre and sharing with us your concerns. Customer feedback is something we take very seriously and appreciate you advising us of the issue.
Please allow me to express a sincere apology on behalf of Shell Canada for the inconvenience you have experienced. Delivering world-class customer service is a high priority for Shell and we are disappointed when we fail to meet your expectations. The situation you describe certainly falls below the standard of customer service Shell Canada endeavors to offer.

The situation you describe requires that you coordinate with the Shell retailer where the incident occurred.

I have included the contact information of the Retailer so that I may assist you in getting this issue resolved.

- Godfrey (905) 889-6579

Again, thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Sincerely,
Bathoo Kabamba

Should not be a problem for the claim at shell. I have had my previous, previous car (Golf IV GTI) washed at hwy 7 shell where McDonald is over the street. Had my lower grill cracked by their garbage can because that day was so windy and the damn can blow over and hit on my car. $200 was the claim with a fix of $120...so get a higher quote from BMW and fix it where you want after. They will not give you the exact quote anyways. GL

Sounds like a standard reply to any complaint. Shell is bouncing it back to the retailer. Good luck.
