I love this setup. It's quiet and I've had no maintenance. My street setup is compression set to 0, and rebound on 6 (out of 12). More compliant than stock. Then I twist it up for the track. I've been considering higher spring rates since these shocks are so good.

And my modified 1M is much faster than my modified 135i. I had basically the same parts on both.

.similar tune (same basic power specs)
.same camber plates
.same M3 control arms
.same M3 rear subframe bushings
.same M3 front sway bar
.same cross tower braces
.both on stock brakes with motul 660 fluid
.both on 18'' track wheels of similar weight
.same tire compound (1M is wider)
.same sloppy driving style

At Eagles Canyon Raceway near Slidell, TX I ran 2:07's in my 135i. One year later, similar conditions, the 1M turned 2:03's. 4 seconds is big. Primary contributing factors is the 1M differential and the M3 brakes. Tires to a lesser extent. I could power out of the slow off-camber turns and attain much higher speeds at the end of the straights. Then with the much better brakes, I was braking later with no fade. The 135i brembos would start to fade. A little extra grip helps. And this car can just hammer out lap after lap with no drama. Maybe a little drift here and there, but easy to straighten it out and keep plowing ahead.

Next I'm going for more power. Helix FMIC, AFE intake, perhaps another tune when GIAC has the 1+ or stage 2 ready. And considering an exhaust. You can never be fast enough. Probably not downpipes. Something has to remain stock.

Nice to hear the additional feedback.

I'll be picking up my 1M from GIAC next Monday and I am sure soon after that the stage 1+ will be released and follow by stage 2. If you have any questions on GIAC tune or just the 1M in general, please feel free to email or call.

Looking forward to seeing all your updates at TWS next month! Are you running red? If so I'd love to catch a ride and feel the differences.

Probably. I just let Rick put me where he wants. It doesn't matter to me. He let's me take passengers in Yellow also. But I suspect he will place me in yellow for at least the first couple sessions since I've not run at TWS in about 3 years.

Not sure. The AST adjuster slides over the adjuster post and secures with a set screw. Pretty simple design. Might work with your KW's.

Harold with HP Autowerks would know. Harold - you out there?

I haven't taken any in-car video lately. I need a new camera. I just got an iphone 4s so I'll probably start using Harry's Lap Timer App. Takes decent video and much more convenient than my old setup.

But below is a link to a video from an M3 with mods and slicks chasing me. If you read his thread he claims he caught me a few laps later. In reality I started my cool down lap early. I could see the "checkered - session over" flag from across the track, about 10 turns ahead.

I have some still I will try and find from an on-track photographer, but they have a "proof" watermark on them since I didn't buy any.

He claimed his best time was 2:34, what was yours?

It sounded like he was pissed because he couldn't catch you...you really pulled away on him in a few turns. He is very sloppy and not really using all the track that is provided to him.

Yes he really wanted to catch me and got sloppy. You can hear him say "sh_t" when he botched a turn. He's a cool guy and pretty fast. My best lap for that configuration is a 2:31 - 2:32.

Harold , I believe he sold it and went Miata racing .. I ended up picking up most of his track pad spares .. which I have barely touched. He had an X5M daily when I saw him last .. perhaps 2 summers ago.

Hopefully still in the area and will reply.
