Turn off startup chime

Does anyone know how to turn off the startup chime?

Buckle your seatbelt before you start it i think. Both passenger and driver.

Aww, what's sad is that chime might be one of my favorite little things about the car. Of course, I can say that now, cause I won't take delivery until the end of the week. Maybe after a few weeks/months, it won't seem all that great anymore. Guess we'll see.

I like to think of the chime as my 135's way of saying it cares.

I think you can turn it down while it is going off. Maybe with the radio volume? I know the sales guy did something on the test drive.

Ya, I saw the sales guy turn off/down the chime doing something with the some buttons on the radio. I would never!

It reminds me of some Operating system boot up as I work in IT so i would like to be able to mute it or turn it off. I get enough of that kind of sound at work all day . I just want to hear the exhaust and engine noise when it starts.

I really do think that if your seatbelt is buckled before you hit the start button there is no chime, at least that is how mine works.

It's not just the seatbelt...I'm fine with that. It also goes off when if the door is open and the key happens to be in the ignition. You have to listen to it when doing simple things like getting something out of your car, or cleaning something if your key is not out of the ignition. I honestly don't like to take the key out every time I pull into my garage.

It dongs for dashboard alerts also. I've been to the setting for it on the radio and adjusted the volume level but it didn't matter if it was at +6 or -6, it still sounded the same. I hate the thing but I've yet to get mad enough to dig deeper into shutting it off.

Hopefully someone here will find the answer before I do.

I had that "speed" alarm set at 85 mph also, but the darn thing kept going off all the time.
I've reset it to 95 mph and it goes off much less frequently

There might not be a way. The car makers have started wiring the chime into other systems so disabling the chime might leave you without headlights or something.

i had this issue with my X5. it chimed for everything, door open, starting, alerts, seat belt unlatched.... it was ridiculous. i went into my service shop and asked about it, and the senior mechanic made sure he took me out of the shop and told me about a plug under the steering column.
so, at least for the X5, if you take off the panel by your knees (like 4 screws) you can see like 3 plugs. i played trial and error until i found the correct plug that when disconnected there are no chimes.

let me just tell you how sweet and quiet it is, all the time. i plan on doing this when my 1 gets here...

Hopefully that can be turned off and/or set at or above the governor limit. Because I plan to take this car to the track once or twice and it will dive me nuts if it starts chiming every time I hit the straights.
