First its the quads, then the carbon roof, now the freaking fender vent?? Who the hell pays $50k for a whats probably going to be the best performance car on the road for <$50k, and you guys are whining about cosmetic crap? Go to the Honda/VW/Audi boards and talk cars. We would rather talk performance that matters in, oh what do they call it...yeah "the ultimate driving machine"......You guys remind me of the "cafe racers" at starbucks with their wanna be race bikes that have never taken their butt off the side of the seat to change the COG going through a turn.

This car is about the "performance driving", not the "performing arts".

To me it's a fake vent because BMW always have side vents like the M3, M5 etc. and have never had a long vertical design like that. It's actually worse because they included the huge chrome side indicator from the M3 which just looks tacky.

Also, if BMW wanted to make wide arches they can do it easily like they done with the M3 coupé. This just looks like a fake vent.

Actually, it's truer to the definition of "dent" than it is to "vent."

functional or not, this car is gonna rock. IMO a fender crease like shown is better than a fake plastic vent that does nothing (i.e. E46M3 & E92M3 side vents). If you don't like how it looks, i totally understand, but you can't knock if for not being functional cause after all it is just a design crease. It already looks 1000% better than the 1-series.

I used to own a E46 M3, that car was pure magic and I should of never sold it. Now that I've sold my S2000 and have a subaru beater for the winter, I've been longing to get another M car. I contemplated getting another E46M or an Z4M coupe because I loved the engine (even though out of warranty service is ridiculously expensive) or a use E92 M3 (love the V8, but the car felt a little too big), so i test drove the 135 and the new Z4IS to get a taste of the dimensions of the 1M and it's engine, and I must say that I'm sold on turbocharging (even though my last two cars rev over 8K). If the 135 didn't look so much like a pig, I'd of bought one. Inside, the car felt just right. Hopefully the 1 M will be more like a modern day E46 M3.

I got my name down on the waiting list at the local dealership, and hopefully will take European Delivery this summer.

Creased side vents= BIG FAIL-- it's like a hot chick with fake tits . I don't think I would've been too disappointed, but for the fact that they covered it up like there was something interesting to see there. I like the overall look of the car, but totally despise the fake vents

I can't believe people actually care so much about whether there is or is not an actual vent or not. That's just weird.

There's nothing weird about expressing an opinion regarding the aesthetics of the car. There's no doubt that Ms are all about driving dynamics, but they're also about aesthetics. There are certain distinguishing looks about modern Ms and the side vents happen to be one of them. Like I stated in my initial post, I would not have been disappointed about the vents, but for the fact that BMW made it seem like there was something interesting to see there. This is a public forum and people are entitled to express their views. If the vents don't bother you, then fine, but other people have a right to express their opinion-- nothing weird about that.

Yes, but remember that not all previous M3s and M5s have a cowl vent, only the E46, E9x and E60 models. Instead, I see this as introducing a new styling cue unique to the 1M.

And that is a bit of an issue for me as a Sooner fan

(I do have direct affiliation for OU....LOL) At any rate, my school affiliation will not dictate the car color I get. Can't wait to see this orange in the flesh!!

BMW " Always " have side vents ?

Let's keep in mind they only began using those about 10 years ago....

I had a 2006 Lotus Exige with a visible roof scoop that was completely closed and covered with a black sticker and screen. It was flat out embarrassing when someone would compliment me on the cool scoop and I would have to tell them it actually did nothing.
