VRSF n55 catless downpipe review

I just installed my Vrsf catless downpipe on my n55 135i and all I can say is WOW! This thing is just awesome. Going from my stock setup to the catless dowpipe is amazing. The first cold start did scare me a bit, I am not gonna lie about that. This exhaust upgrade is perfect for those that want the perfect balance of loud under WOT and not loud when daily driving. I also did tune the car with MHD stage 1+ and the little one is scary fast now. I deleted the cold start aswell because it was just too loud, if you dont delete the cold start your neighbors will have a new alarm clock to wake up to lmao. When driving around town and under bridges it just puts a smile on your face. In my honest opinion this is the perfect setup for all you guys that daily your little 1. Huge shout to VRSF for creating an amazing product, you guys really killed it with this. I did install it myself and it was pretty easy, the only thing you need to do this is patience! Especially with that damn v band. I will be uploading a youtube review with a few sound clips in the near future that I will attach here in the near future. If anyone has any questions about it please ask away!

I have the same coupled with a berk race axle back. Once the car is warmed up, its civil at idle but my god does the beast awaken upon acceleration. I don't daily mine but just recently had to re-install the stock dp for emissions. It really is a piece of cake on the n55. Had it in and out within 30 mins.

Any tips or tricks that should be known before installing? I am getting mine this week and can't wait to install it. Thanks for the review, makes me feel better knowing it's a good piece.

Are you running it with a tune? Im looking into getting an axle back in the future, how much louder does the car get with the axle back? and also do you think its worth it to add an axle back to the setup?

One of the biggest things while doing this is patience! make sure you have all the proper tools before hand. Soak the O2 sensors with WD40 for a little before you remove them, it really helps. An extra pair of hands is always a help as well, I could've done it by myself but since its such a tight space (I did it on a ramp) you don't have much room for movement, thus having a friend around to help was great. Also if your O2 sensor does not come off from the downpipe you can actually unattached the wires for the O2 sensors from the top of the engine and then actually drop the downpipes with the O2 sensors still on them then proceed to take them off as you have more room to work with. Theres probably a thread for that somewhere. If you have anymore questions please feel free to ask, I am sure the install will be as smooth as butter! Also watch Chrisross on youtube, he has an install video on the downpipe for the n55 which was also a huge help for me.

No tips or tricks i can give. Once you have the belly pan off, youll see the downpipe right there. By far the easiest dp to remove on any car i have ever had to change. I suppose one tip i can give, disconnect the o2 sensor wires and drop the dp with them attached. Much easier to disconnect them with the pipe off than with it on. I had mine out and new one on within about 40 mins by myself on my back. Its a one person job, extra set of hands to me would just get in the way.

I am currently on a custom 93 tune. The catless dp is definitely the loudest piece but with the berk race axle back, it is louder but has a nasty angry growl that just sounds damn good. I think its worth it. Mines not a daily so if yours is, i wouldn't. Don't expect any power from the exhaust either. More just for sound.

Thanks, I'll be picking one up sometime this year. Btw, don't you need stage 2 for a catless DP with MHD? 1+ is for an upgraded IC.

You don't "need" it but to extrapolate more power gains, yes stage 2 is what you want. stage 1 is just if your completely stock. the + is always for if you have a added intercooler.

If you really want to see some gains, go with a custom tune when your all done with your mods. Huge difference from the ots stage 2+ tune.

OP, are you saying catless downpipe and the rest of the exhaust is stock?

I'd love to hear a video of that, even though it seems there isn't too much gained without the cat on these cars with a tune?

Im gonna post one on my Instagram soon, its missgray135. Ill see if I can tag it here I couldn't help you with the second part because I haven't experienced an n55 with a stage 1 tune with no mods. But I will tell you that once you slap on that VRSF catless DP and tune it with MHD to stage 1+, you will be blown away with how much more power it makes (its almost kinda scary lmao). Oh and set that burble to the highest setting, you won't stop smiling whenever you let off the gas, I can promise you that.

Thanks for the video, unfortunately it doesn't really tell you much.

That's my big problem, very very few of the exhaust videos compare

Stock to theirs modded, using the same camera/mic, same location, etc so you can really compare the two on sound quality, tone, and volume.

Yes, AWD, went like the clappers if you got rid of the cats and added an intake and a tune. Plenty of bolt ons, just a bitch to work on. I mean, who's idea was it to put the PCV behind the intake manifold then make it so you have to take the PS pump off to remove the manifold....genius.
Meh, I still loved the car.
