Introducing, Dieter.

Wow. Why did BMW wait so long to make me this perfect car?
I must admit, for the first few kilometers I was a bit worried about my decision. You see coming from an S2000 in to any other car is a very difficult thing to do. From it’s very low seating position to the amazing shifter to the razor sharp handling and light steering the S2K has “race car” written all over it.
The first thing I noticed about the 1’er was the heavy steering feel. I had driven a few other 1’s over the past month but as I negotiated the parking lot of the dealership to head out, the heavy steering was very noticeable.
Once out on the road it was the seating position that was occupying my thoughts. I had adjusted it to what I thought was right before pulling out but it just didn’t feel right. We made a few stops over the first half hour and I tried many adjustments. Higher, lower, tilted back, more upright but I just wasn’t feeling the love.
At about 60 kilometers in, it happened. Every thing fell in to place. I found the perfect seating position, which I quickly saved to memory, and my 1’er and I become one. The steering which had felt so heavy now felt completely natural and all was right in the world.
There is nothing that I can add about this car that has not been written on this forum. It is so fast and so sure footed that it will amaze you.
The only perspective I can give, that I haven’t read here already, is what an amazing convertible it is. The blind spots are almost non-existent. I was expecting the small mirrors to b a problem but when adjusted correctly work very well. The car is rock solid, tight as a drum and very comfortable at 130 kph.
The back seat has taken much criticism but we drove for almost three hours with my daughter and her friend in the back (5’5” and 5’8”) and neither one of them were in a hurry to leave the car. It will be perfect for what we need.
The other big positive I can give comes from my 14 year old daughter who gave the Logic 7 stereo with the iPod integration a huge two thumbs up. When she got out of the car she said “OMG Dad, I think I’m deaf”
You may have noticed from the pics that the Shadow line trim is missing. The dealer has no idea why and he is checking with BMW. I don’t mind the chrome but I think I’ll push for it to be switched out. Opinions?
A big thank you to all the members of 1Addicts (except maybe for Tex ). You guys have made the last few months tolerable and at times, an absolute blast :drinking:

Looks awesome! I'm jealous of your door sills, dead pedal and wheels. I also dig the 3 cup holders, mine only has 2!

It's the Sprockets reference (family joke).

Nice! I agree with the seating position. I'm constantly playing with it and still haven't found the sweet spot.

Fellow S2k'er

Finally someone that is coming from the S2k

So once you found that "sweet" spot how does the car compare to the thrill of driving the S2k? Like you said, not many cars can compare to the feeling you get while driving the S2k

I have an 05' S right now with a 135i coupe on order. I am worried that I will miss the S too much. Am I going too in your opinion?

Obviously I will miss the drop top as I am getting the coupe but what else will I regret loosing?

BTW- The car looks amazing. I think it looks classy with the chrome but the shadowline trim is teh sex

Wolf, looks stunning! It's definitely a keeper. You can lay off of the Nyquil now, which is always a plus.

You managed to get the Yr1 start button bezel too (to match the plate!).. seems like there's no rhyme or reason as to who gets that in Canada...

It's beautiful, Wolf! Love the SGM on the 'vert. Shadowline would look a little more aggressive, but the chromeline looks really classy - tough choice really, so go with your gut.

Enjoy!

The door sills are Canada only. Sorry guys.

The 1 of 1 ring is over in Canada. Apparently it was a mistake on the early cars but my SA loves me and found me one

Except for the shifter, you will not miss your S2K after about 100 kms. The clutch is actually nicer in the 1'er. I never realized how much I missed having torque until 300 lb/ft fell on my right foot.

Thanks for the comments on the chrome. It is classier but I was planning on the black grills and they need the Shadow line trim.

Looks really good. I like the crome with the convertible and the SGM. Too bad you had planned the shadow grill or else I'd keep the crome.
