Red calipers??

Just curious if any of you have painted/pc'd the calipers a flat red??

I think it may look good on SGM...

I painted mine red today but haven't taken pictures yet (car is a little dirty). My son, who was not in favor of it, said he thought they look good. I used the Duracolor kit. It took awhile but was pretty easy.

Some guy on here has an White car on CSLs and he painted his caliper red and had "BREMBO" stickers put on them. He had the performance calipers too, so it looked just like an aftermarket BBK. And no, it didn't look ricey. I'm too lazy to find the pictures right now :P

Not sure if you know this, but, the performance calipers are the exact same as our 135's stock calipers. Except they are painted. They were meant for the 128i.

Did some quick digging. And I am semi-sold on this.

Not a fan of this one because of the lettering. Too "cartoony".

These look way better, but still out of place:

It might be that they are flat red.

I would do the darker yellow or metallic yellow. IMHO red is sorta old looking.

I hessitated to take pictures because my car needs washed but this should give you some idea how the stock 128i calipers look painted with the Duracolor kit. I tried for some side views but it's overcast here right now and they didn't come out. The first picture is the front, the second is the rear.

I like this because it is subtle. My 128i convertible is alpine white with a black top - so a touch of color on the calipers seems to be appropriate.

When I wash it, I'll try and remember to post a picture of the whole vehicle.

I'm an idiot, I meant rotors. My bad.

EDIT: I found the link to those pictures I was talking about, here it is: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...rembo+stickers

Here's a picture but you cannot see the calipers well. I think the problem is there is not enough light on the calipers. My flash will not reach far enough to allow me to get the whole car. My stock 128i calipers are definitely more subtle than the Brembos on the coupe.

I like the red, especially against a black car, but wouldn't flat red be harder to keep clean?

There was definitely some brake dust on the calipers when I cleaned them prior to painting them but a lot less than accumulates on the wheels. It's only been a week but they seem to have stayed clean so far. Even if they are not painted, you'd need to clean off brake dust or it will show through the wheel.

It took me 2-3 hours to paint my calipers. Getting the car on jack stands on all 4 corners is a significant step. I jacked the back to get the front on stands and then jacked the rear differential to get the back on stands. Loosen the lug nuts first and then you can pull all 4 wheels. Next you clean the calipers. The duracolor kit includes a large aresol can of what seems to be brake cleaner. You use it to take all the brake dust and other junk off the calipers. You cannot realy clean the insides of the caliper with it on the car but I didn't worry about that. I pulled what I think are the anti-vibration clips but left the calipers on the car. Applying the paint was perhaps easier than cleaning the calipers. You brush it on and the kit includes a brush. I ended up using a few flux brushes when I inadvertantly touched the brush to brake dust on the inside of the caliper. It's a little hard to get the paint on the parts of the caliper facing towards the inside but you wouldn't have to. To do only the visible surfaces would go pretty quickly.

The Duracolor kit comes in multiple colors - I think including black. I got it from JEGS for less than $20.
