1M Single to S65 DCT Conversion

This poor car has been threw it all for the past 3 years since I bought it. Loved the speed but this car was so much better as a twin FBO car that wouldn't glass cannon the N55 trans (N55 makes the the N54 trans feel like hot garbage but holds the power). So time to let go of the crazy.....

Got a deal on a 2011 E92 M3 DCT Coupe. 1M is going S65 DCT, S65 getting reworked by MWorks (Got to love bearings). GOAL is to keep all the 1M interior vs dash retro. Got Sporter CSs and a lot of stuff going into it this time around so should make for a fun car again :-)

Super excited to finally do it, Its what I wanted to do 3 years ago but N54 problems

Anyone want a reversed swapped M3 roller (1M N54 subframe, DME, Harness)?

An E82 with an S65 is pure sex on wheels but wouldn't it make more financial sense to use a regular 135i to convert given the rising demand for stock 1M's?

His 1M already isn't stock. I say send it!
Looking forward to following progress from the OP!

Financials never mattered to me on this car. You can also look at some of the crazy right now in the market, there was a place in Florida selling s65 swapped 1M for 140k. a 1M converted 135 w/s65 went to 50k and reserve was not met.

In short this is a car I intend to keep regardless so I never thought about this being value gain. Real value is the elevate the FBO experience that the N54 gave that made the 1M feel special to me at least. I say this while looking at AA Gen II Superchargers....

1M dismantle starts tomorrow while the M3 goes for the engine work. I think we will be 2 weeks out for engine pull / swap.... then real headaches start

Shouldn't be too hard as the DCT cooler will take the place of the N54 cooler and S65 oil coolers like CSF are placed across the the radiator. Then again its all theory till I get into it

He makes it sound so simple. If my motor ever decides to give up I'm probably going to do the same. I used to own an E60 M5 and loved it, almost bought another one but wanted something lighter this time around. An E82 with S85 would be

I just sold my Dinan 5.8 stroked M5 w/ smg. Why I feel something as pissed off with a DCT will be crazy in this form factor!

I think going with a M3 engine swap isn't a bad idea but the tragedy here if going DCT over stick.
In my opinion what made the 1M special is the manual gearbox was the only available ant the join of going on a back country road or a track day going through the gear is what make it fun.
Unless you are only going for raw speed and straight line performance.

Have you heard any mention of upgrading the brakes?

Technically the 1M uses the M3 brakes. Considering the powertrain is lighter by ~50 pounds and keeps 50/50 distribution it may not be the biggest thing needed at this time. Will have to assess once its running.

Not sure if most would agree, especially in the M3 space. DCT is a far superior solution minus the connected feel of a manual. Maybe the DCT will be even more special in the 1M... time will tell.
