Steering Twitch Over Bumps

So I'll try to explain this as best I can.

While driving over any bumps while going through a turn (think sweeping turn on highway) the steering wheel has a tendency to twitch in the direction of the turn rather abruptly.

I'm not sure if this is a symptom of an issue or just how the car handles but I was hoping to get some feedback from others before buying any new parts.

Peeps are going to need more info. Are you lowered? Mileage, etc. Stock car I'd guess something is bent, worn out bushings, or bad alignment. That's pretty much everything. You're going to want to narrow it down.

Car is at 104k on stock suspension. Rear shocks were replaced about 10k ago and feels solid otherwise. None of the bushings look shot and the car doesn't show any other symptoms of a bad alignment.

Could it be the rear stepping out b/c of the weak subframe bushings? They are a negative when new and you have 104k miles so just maybe...

No, definitely not the rear stepping out. The traction light would kick in if it was.

Very tough to give any good advice here. This is something that needs a road test to get a feeling for the car. I can't judge the severity of the bumps, the speeds needed, the turning angles required, etc.


But, often times the inner bushings in the factory Tension Strut (lower control arm) are fluid filled. Over time they leak and develop play. If they have never been replaced, this might be a source of your problem.

Other than that, it's something a good suspension guy should drive to get a feel for what's going on.

At 104k your front struts are shot. Replace them and get the M3 front control arms at the same time. You'll thanks me later.

I'm of the opinion the rear subframe bushings are contributing to this. As I remember the car felt very unsettled before I did the bushings. It's been years since I fixed them so my memory is vague but doing the bushings made the car more stable in all situations.

You need all the M3 control arms to fix this

And upgraded RSFB

I have all of these parts, and the skipping went away. Just upgraded RSFB will not fix the issue, even with a high end coilovers like JRZ, won't fix it, need the arms
