dealer messed up my order..
hi everyone. well i ordered a 330i in May and now as the car is on the way from VPC to my dealer, my salesman calls me to say that it was mistakenly ordered with automatic transmission instead of manual which i wanted. This was my worst nightmare and now it actually happened. So now I am considering asking for $2000 additional off + a bmw to drive for the 6 weeks it takes to order another one, or else I'm just going to go to another dealer. Is this an unreasonable offer? Has anyone else been in a similar situation? TIA

This is not a "whoops, we forgot to add the trunk drawer" issue. The transmission you wanted is an integral part of the car you ordered. Tell him you want your full deposit back, and after a nasty call to BMWUSA you are going to another dealer. That should motivate them to try and make you happy - if not, you don't want to deal with them. Do you have any paperwork from the original order or your request that shows the manual tranny?

that's an unreasonable request, extra money off is reasonable but they would have had to ream you on the original deal to have that kind of room left. I had a friend who had a mistakenly ordered car, and he got all the extra options for the same price he'd originally negotiated. In your case that would mean free tranny, (which you don't want).
It's an expensive car, give them a shot to fix it. did you have any strange option combos on your car that will make it hard to sell to anyone else?? (my car was strange, I ordered assist as a standalone option so I wouldn't have to pay for prem pack) If you ordered a weird car, they'll probably bend over backwards to try and get you to take the car anyways. |

keep in mind, going to another dealer will not speed the solution to your problem. the first dealer already has time invested in your deal and will probably try harder to fix the problem than a new dealer would try to solve your problem.
unless your dealer is crappy, then you're better off leaving |

That really sucks, man. I triple checked with my CA to make sure that he had specified manual, and I was still nervous that I would walk into the garage in Munich (I did ED) and see a horrid steptronic in there. Thankfully, that wasn't the case.
Maybe your dealer can try and locate similar one for you that has a manual. I hope they can find a way to make you happy asap. |

When I placed my order, I noticed that the order form had "AT" at the top. I asked the SA, "That's not Auto Tranny is it?" He said Oops, he wrote that out of habit since just about everyone gets it. Glad I spotted it - we changed it to "Floor mATs" Plus I double check with him every time we talk - it's MT right?

Find out what other manuals are on order in the pipeline. If one matches up with what you want, see if they'll switch and possibly negotiate a better deal.
