rims are rims, they are all gonna bend if you hit a pot hole big and hard enough. only reason why hamann are so expensive is because mainly their marketing. they are also known from their long time experience with bmw aftermarket parts. so if you dont have the money for hamann, go with the other guy. they look almost identical. the only difference is the stamping on the wheels. hell, the fake one might be even better. why you ask? they are probably lighter than hamann. hamann wheels are heavy.....hope this helps.

I'm fairly new here and I've noticed that there are several members here that have replicas and have no problems. In my opinion unless you want the "bling" factor or a serious racer looking for light weight wheels there isn't anything wrong with replica wheels as long as they fit

If only the seller had these for the 3series.....

They are unbelievably cheap! You could get a set of these replicas with tires for around $1500

After giving a second thought, i think i am gonna pass on the replicas and opted to go with 19" ASA AR1. They are about the same price, you could get them from tirerack.com for $1600-$2000 depending on the tires you choose.

A friend of mine who sells tires and rims warn me of these replicas. He said that their quality is very questionable, they are easily bent. Is this true guys? Please let me know if any of you guys have had good/bad experiences with replicas

I already saw some members here have these ASA wheels, and they look great. My question is: I dont have the sport package, i am sure it will look weird if i dont lower the car, can you guys help me on choosing the right springs and how much lower should i go? The only set of springs i could find is the Eibach pro set kit that sells for $225

Be carefull with replicas because a lot of times they don't use the same casting method as the originals. Go to tirerack.com and there is a place that explains all the different casting methods that companies use.

Actually there is nothing wrong with the rims in the 1st post. The term replica wheel gets missused as to imply that they are fake or infeirior wheels. As one mentioned above. There is little difference between the quality of that wheel and the Hamann except that the Hamann is probably much heavier.

Most wheels, including the ASA's, are low pressure cast. BBS just licences the ASA wheels which are made in Korea. They are no better than the "replicas". True BBS wheels however, use a counter pressure casting method and SSR uses Semi Solid Forging or Rim rolling Tech which does make for a lighter wheel. Most people don't know this, but most of the casting machines used abroad are produced in Germany and sold to the Taiwanese and Chinese for their factories. The labor is what Makes the product cheaper. Marketing dollar is what makes some wheels of the same quality more expensive than others.

The wheels that are infeirior are gravity cast as they contain many air voids. This usually means they also have to be heavier to acheive the rated strength. Many of the wheels being produced now are also slated to go into the EEC/Germany and have to pass the rigorus testing that is spec'ed out. It makes little sense for the manufactures to produce two levels of quality . We now get the benefit of a global market.

The main concern is the application that is being marketed. The wheels in the first post will actually fit quite nice on the new 3 because the offsets are 38 front and rear. The guy selling hem however is targeting all 3 series owners of which most are e46 people. This offset will cause rubbing problems in the rear unless a skinny tire is used. Not the right idea when marketing a 9.5" wheel. The same guy is marketing a set of black 5 stars to 350z owners. These cars take 20-25mm offsets to best fit. His wheels are 45mm, Go figure.

You have to know what is right for your vehicle before purchasing. The e90 is not the same as e36/46. Be careful!

The reaon I posted here is that we have our own wheel line and cater to rear wheel drive cars primarly. We have 3 styles in 18 and 19" for BMW, Mercedes, and many Japanese cars. We are working to come out with a proper fitment for the e90 and are doing some research. Here is a pic of a 3 that we test fitted for the local dealership . I have more if people are interested.

Mike

ZFever! Cool, I thought that place disappeared. I went down Dale Mabry one day and it was just gone. It was depressing. Do you work there? Got any early 70's 240's for sale?

Gosh, i am really confused after reading's Mike comment about the replicas...... , ASA or Hamann replicas????

the price for the new ASA with Fuzion tires from tirerack is $1,600, while the slightly used (1000 miles) with Falken GRB FK451 tires is $1,500.

JIMD1709 's car

I still like the look on the Hamann replicas though...Are these the PG2 replicas? or PG3? They are 19" x 8.5 all around, will they fit perfectly on E90?

Here is a pic of the real deal, looks identical to the replicas, what do you guys think

IMO you can't go wrong with either, both look great. If you like dish on your wheels, the ASA's are awesome. The quality of both I'm guessing will be ok, not forged quality, but the price reflects that. Anyways genuine Hamann's aren't particularly strong either so I wouldn't be surprised if the replicas were nearly as strong.

As for dropping your suspension, H&R gives a good drop. Here's a fellow member's car lowered on H&R springs:

I haven't seen pics of car lowered on Eibach springs yet. Good luck and show us pics when you get it all together!!

well than Hamann replica will actualy cost me more than the ASA wheels. I called several places, and the price on them is approx $1100 shipped to Philly, and none of them do wheel + tire package, which means i have to buy tires separately. A decent set of 19" tires would cost me around $650 shipped, and to mount and balance the wheels + tires would cost me around $80-100. So i am looking around $1100 + 650 + 100 = $1850.

Yeah I think, $1500 for used ones are not worth it, the guy from EBAY claims that he has only 1000 miles on the tires (who knows if he's telling the truth?). And the tires on them are Falken. I've heard a lot of bad reviews about this brand. Thus, i am leaning towards buying the ASA wheels with fuzion tires from tirerack. And am going to lower it with the Eibach springs

If money wasnt the case, I would have bought my self the real Hamann PG2 hahaha. Will post pictures as soon as i got the wheels and springs

Thanks for your comments guys!

Finally. Someone that understands the wheel market. There are many misinfomred people that assume that ALL replicas are low quality.

btw, I would get the ASA's. I think they look better.

I ran ASA AR1's on my 330ci E46 and they were rock solid. Keep them clean though, because the brake dust just eats up the deep dish.

Great wheels for the price.

My personal favorite wheels right now: Volk LE37t's.

i disagree with this statement. hamann wheels are made by oz wheels, which imho very good quality and pretty damn strong. i had a set of hm2's on my last e34 for several years, and only bent one wheel once because i hit a HUGE crack on the road during a mountain drive. my e34 was a daily driver too.

common misconception is that all replica wheels are junk and will bend. i've seen countless numbers of bent ssr wheels. my friend just informed me 3 out of 4 bbs ch wheels on his audi are bent. there are some fairly good quality replica wheels out there, you just got to be careful with what you buy.

and finally, i think pg2/3's look hot on the e90. maybe... someday...
