Rear right caliper seizing
Hi,
There seems to be a problem with the right rear caliper on my wife’s E88 120i Convertible. It is seizing on slightly and causing a bit of squealing and brake dust to build up. I took the wheel off to have a look today and it only seems to be happening when I apply the foot brake, the parking/handbrake operates fine and does not cause any problems. I am assuming the parking brake uses the caliper so why would it operate OK if the foot brake causes it to seize? Or is my assumption wrong and does the parking brake not use the caliper? I have the car booked into get it checked out on Monday but want to check if there was perhaps something I should look at that could be an easy fix? Thanks in advance Graham Last edited by gmac00; 08-08-2014 at 07:47 AM.. |

My freinds 128i had the rear caliper seize too. He tracks his car though, so it could be heavy use.
Parking brake does not use the rear caliper - its a brake shoe inside the rotor. BMW used to make caliper rebuild kits, I dont know if the still do. Otherwise see ebay.co.uk and the Breakers there for a used caliper, search by part number from RealOEM.com Sweeden has a website called - bildelsbasen.se it may get you a used caliper too.
