Code p0219

Engine overspeed condition

Anyone familiar?

Last night I was running prob around 80mph then I romped it when the SUV moved over to the slow lane then mud in my pants. The transmission light w/ about 400 other lights came on. Almost zero power. I pulled over & turned the car off then back on and only had the check engine light on.

My 135i.
Almost all bolt ons done.
Auto w/ Alpina transmission flash
Rb Turbos next gen
159k miles
16 pounds of boost.

The car is in good health. I stay on top of all maintenance & so on.

Thanks,
b

My guess; something in trans slipped, RPM went too high, car went into limp mode. Really just a guess though. I'd clear it and check everything over, see if it comes back.

EDIT: Just saw you're at 160k miles, that's a lot to be pushing that much power through the base auto with a flash. When was the last time you had the trans checked out.

How would the RPM go too high if transmission slips?

Trans slipping can let the engine push past the safe rev point, triggering that code and limp mode

I replaced the transmission fluid prob 15k miles back. I’ve romped on it several times over the past few days. All seems well.

It's hard to make it more simple than that... If the trans slips when you're gunning it, the RPMs are going to climb past where the car thinks it should be in that gear.

No it won't.

But it's ok if you don't know it. Just explaining it to you, but I thought you knew what you were talking about and there could possibly be a reason for it to happen.

Cheers
