tinting 135i

Have a 135i convertible on order from BMW Melbourne. ETO early October hopefully. I have optioned it with sat nav prof, hifi premium, adaptive lights, comfort access, titan metallic paint. Cant wait.

Wondering if it is worth tinting the car?
If yes worth doing via BMW before collection day or do it privately?

Tint on a vert looks dodgy when the roof is down and windows up IMO..

I agree, dark tinting doesn't work on a drop-topped vert. However, if you go light, say 50%VLT I think you'll be happy. I have in on my coupe, on sunny days, you can barely tell I have tint, just adds a subtle hint of luxury, on overcast days it blends perfectly with SGM. I think, with the top down, it'll be very subtle as you'll have light on both sides of the glass. With the top up, darkening the interior, it'll help blend the lines of the car.

Regardless the interior comfort outweighs any asthetic improvements. What a pleasure it is to drive vs sans tint.

DO IT DO IT DO IT. Especially if you have leather seats. My Coral, just after a year, was drying up real bad under the rear window. A few conditioning treatments and tint, it's continuously improving.

any tips on where to get it done and approxmate cost?

Also what sort of gift (delivery gift) should one expect on D day?
(I spoke to my dealer rep about ipod and cable and he said he would add it to my bmw and it would be my delivery gift!) What is the cost of the cord?
What have others got?

I think the RRP on the ipod cable is about $160 (!)

I got given a roller sports bag thingy (RRP also about $160 coincidentally). I actually picked up the ipod cable off ebay for about $90, but have started using a USB key instead, the sounds quality is noticable better (though you can't play DRM'd music with it)

Make sure you post up pics if you decide to tint becuase i am with Zuzu i think it would look strange.
But in saying that if yours looks good i would probably be intrested in doing it to mine. hehe

My "gift" was the iPod cable. I didn't request it, but asked enough questions about it to make it pretty clear that it was something I'd appreciate! And I do.

I forgot to add that they are also throwing the infant bmw car in with it (the larger version one with foot pedals)--negiogated at deal as my daughter loved it when I was looking at cars at dealership. Actually was going to buy 325 convert, but then dealer rep demanded to show me something called a 135i.....i was very sceptical until i drove it! and wow was i in love with it.

I dont think I am going to tint it if no one else with a vert has

I think it looks quite good actually. I have it on my titan silver vert. Its something of a must have in sunny QLD. The drive to work in the mornings, the sun is to my right and shines directly onto my face and without the tint the heat and glare becomes a big nuisance. In the end I went with BMW, darkest legal tint, because if there is any problem with it I know that I can take it straight back and get it fixed without a fight.

BMW Melbourne uses a film that have the support from sunsmart... or supporting sunsmart I dunno.

www.uvshield.com.au

They charges an arm and a leg but I got quoted from Tint-a-car on a coupe for 2/3 of the money.

The tint is not dark at all, which I like. The heat issue when I first had the car is gone. Now the air con is "working" properly.

Thanks. Looks like I am in the minority, but I actually think it looks better with tint.

Done at BMW. I think was about $695. Looks good from inside. I always go with BMW as their lifetime warranty includes both labour and material - be careful as some dont offer both. Also being BMW, ANY problems and it will get redone no questions asked as well as loan car.

I remember one I did in 2003 and complained that the back window had ''glare'' at night time. Car was collected, loan car dropped off - fixed with no questions asked. They didnt even look at the tint, just replaced it.

I very much doubt my complaints would be dealt like this elsewhere. So yes its pricey but it really is peace of mind.

Thanks mate

I think black looks better. However I could not go for black again as I already have a black X5. Keeping it clean would be a bitch, and having 2 black cars would send me crazy!
