18 in square?
Tried going through the official wheel thread, but couldn't find what i was looking for. I want to run an 18" square setup on my 2010 m sport 128i. I would like to keep the suspension stock, and would love to run 235/40/18 all around. Is this possible? What offset am i looking at and if i need spacers what size? thank you all so much!

My strategy for this on my 135i was to stretch a 225 onto the back wheels and put a slightly meatier 225 up front. It made the car a lot more fun to drive but frankly there is still way too much grip for the street. I think those sizes would be compatible with a 128i. Unless you're doing driving events don't bother with a bigger tire. All it does is give better thermal tolerance preventing the tires from going off too early. Grip is 99% down to the compound you choose. Not to mention 235 all around is too small for a car as heavy as a 128i if you were serious about the track. In general a car will handle worse with wider tires, it's just a compromise you have to live with as you increase power and weight.

I'm having the same problem. I also want to run a square setup, but with 18s, the choices are limited, even with 225mm tires. I couldn't find many tires I wanted in the 235mm range with the proper aspect ratio.
I completely agree that for street driving, tire width is mainly about image (try telling me this when I was younger). My S197 Mustang is still riding on 235mm tires with 330+hp and I don't have any trouble launching. |

I've been wrestling with this question myself. My inner child wants 19"s with 255mm tires all around because they look sick, but my rational side knows this is foolish. Don't ask me how, but the rational side won. I ordered some 17x8 (45 offset) OZ Leggera HLTs with 225s all around. I will be kicking myself if I cannot install the 135 front brakes down the road, but I think they will still fit under the 17s.

Same car as yours. Very happy w/ Apex Arc8 , 8 1/2 x 18, 45 offset with 225/40/18 Michelin Pilot 4s. They're made for the 1 Series, no spacers, no issues. Chose that size wheel to allow tire choice from 225 to 245. For the street, happy with the balance of the 225's.

If you are willing to just add Dinan fixed front camber plates, you could run stock sized rear rims and tires on the front with a small spacer, then run square 245/35/18. Was thinking of doing that with my stock 313's.

Was thinking the same thing. Already have the Dinan camber plates. In the end I switched wheels to square Arc8's to save about 6 lbs. per wheel. Now on 225's but considering square 245's when tires come due.

i run this exact setup on my 2008 128i. 18x8 ET40 on 235/40ZR18 square.
you will rub in the front, but if you don't lower your car, it should only rub on the fender liner on big dips at high (40mph-ish) speeds. you'll be fine. cheers |

Ended up just powdercoating my staggered 17" style 207s. got a killer deal from local powdercoater, and I decided i want to hit some autocross events comin up and I am willing to sacrifice the 18" look. May end up selling these if I find a set of 18s and fall in love with them. Thanks again!

I do plan on lowering. Hopefully coilovers, otherwise H&R with Koni yellows or similar. I plan on entering into some autocross events and was told 18s are too big for track driving. Might get a set later down road. Thanks!!

I just got a set of EC7s installed with 235/40/R18 Falken Azenis RT615Ks. Shop test fit with 5mm spacers all round; front needed it for strut clearance. Rears looked like they had plenty of room but ended up rubbing when some weight was put in the back. I've ordered some 3mm spacers for the rears, we'll see how this goes. |

18" wheels is just about the norm for track driving. in autocross conditions, you should really just stay away from 19" wheels. if you're looking for some sort of reference to what all this looks like lowered, here's View post on imgur.com . it's on H&R supersport springs & upgraded shocks (picture is before the new shocks though). i also mangled the passenger side front fender while trying to reverse in a spot which is why i have that sticker covering the puckering.cheers |

That's a cool setup. You are rubbing because the RT615K is a sports tire with very square sidewalls. If you get an alignment with a little bit more negative camber on the rear the rubbing is likely to be gone. Otherwise simply remove the 5mm rear spacer and it would be rub free.. For the front you may need some type of front camber plates for those tires with ET40 front offset. Otherwise if you hit the track and drive the car with full opposite lock, I guess the front tire will touch the fender. |
