Yeah... Ferrari's suck too.

Do you guys really think it'll have brake ducts??? At most, it'll have some "duct" to the wheel well... which will most likley be blocked off like with the E46 M3.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

As long as they go turbo route it will never replace the CSL.
FI will never match a pure race bred S54 from BMW Motorsport.

This is the engine is what should go in the M1 period!

Eyebags . . . can someone help with a picture of what eyebags are

How did this thread get switch to talking about Supercharger VS Turbocharger?

Oh, the newb with 25 posts that said "Supercharge it"?

I lol'd at that post and moved on. Sure, because of one post on one BMW message board BMW is going to toss all of their turbo R & D aside and jump to supercharging...

Sorry newb and others that <3 superchargers over turbos, but turbos are here to stay in the BMW brand.

So, back to the M1 discussion...

So, realistically, when will this be available for order? My 335 is up in September of this year, any chance they will be taking orders?

No idea, but I would assume that people (like myself) are already on a list to order.

If they release it in March at Geneva as a "concept", then usually it goes on sale about 1 year after that. So it might be available as an early 2012 model in March/April of 2011.

They do have to hurry up, there's not much time left for the E82 platform.

And if I am to buy one, I need to test drive it first before putting in an ED order...

It is not that good. It is too heavy, heavier than S65.

Makes sense... I bet that this M1 will replace just in time the E90 M3 in the pricing scheme of M cars, as I don't think the M1 will be cheaper than a 335is. Thus leaving the M1 for two years and the E92/93 M3 for one year in the M lineup before their respective replacements.

And to me, there's no way that this M1 will have just 15-30hp more than the 135is... I expect at least 370hp and 350lbs/400lbs of torque with the overboost trick.

Are you suggesting the M3 will cease to be sold after next year? I can imagine they'd bother with the LCI for E92s and only sell them for one year.

Considering it's OT in this thread, I moved the (IMO good) discussion on the engine of the M1 to the existing engine speculation thread: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...=338598&page=9

This way we can keep things on track here and still continue the engine speculation in the other thead.

Best regards,
south

Do you think they'll make a convertible??? That would be sick. although I doubt they will have the time, since the platform is already at the end of it's cycle.

I'd agree that there's not even a remote chance. The 1er is a lower production car, with the convertible variant selling a low percentage. The M1 will be smaller yet, and the convertible would be a miniscule %.

Also, since the cabrio gets different parts than the regular 1 series, that means the $$ they are spending on development of the M1 coupe would be doubled by also needing ragtop parts too... I cannot see it for a single model year. They'd be losing their shirts on that car.

I think Larry is right on with this. If the 'Vert shared the same bodywork as the coupe I'd expect they would do it, but I can't see the cost being justified to create additional tooling and testing for a car that would sell in extremely low volumes.
