anyone have trouble putting gas in tank?
sorry if this has been covered before, but once in a while I have trouble putting gas in my '09 135 coupe. it seems to happen after spirited driving, but could be my imagination.
the pump will keep shutting off, no matter what angle or how far in/out I put the nozzle, or how slowly/fast I try to pump fuel. seems to happen most often when gas pressure at the pump is robust. anybody got a solution? last time it happened, I went to another station and there was no problem. |

I always have problems with just one of the pumps at the local Mobil. If I don't really force the nozzle into the filler neck it will stop after just a gallon. The other pumps work fine.

I think it has to do with the pump/nozzle sensitivity. Depending on the pressure in the tank, a small amount of backsplash can trigger the sensor to stop the nozzle. Certain nozzles from what I've noticed are more likely to do this then others in my area, but again, sometimes its totally fine.

Happens to me only about one out of every 25 fill-ups, and only at certain pumps. I find that usually if I pump the first couple of gallons very slowly, the rest of the fill-up goes well.

That was the problem though....It didn't matter how slow I tried to pump...funny thing is the guy ahead of me had no problems.

I have trouble getting past 8 liter or the 15 liters - filling the tank on empty. I always thought it was something to do with having a US spec car(fue restrictor in the filler/neck tank) in Germany with German non-HC fuel nozzles.
German spec cars do not have that little door in the fuel filler neck, that US cars must have. Once I get past 8 or 15 liters - the rest of the fill up is fine. |

thanks for the input, guys. the only other constant I can think of is that it seems to happen when my tank is less than half full (I usually fill-up at the halfway point, which is about once a week for me).
@ennislaw wherever it's not outrageously high! but the Citgo in Carrboro was the most recent culprit. also had trouble with the Eagles pump on 15/501 near Kohl Park Plaza. funny, but have never had a problem at a BP station anywhere... |

This is a problem that occurs with all road cars where the exhaust runs very close to the tank. Once it get hot, the tank is letting off a lot of vapours that cause many pump nozzles to think there is splash back and therefore cut out.
