I went to the service depot today. My top has a very pronouced bang when going up and down. The tech is very knowledgeable about the 1 series tho. So i'm at least confident in his abilities. He is going to get a a brand new 1er vert from the showroom there in the morn and he is going juxtapose the top actions of both cars.

i would never go back to that dealer -- they make a lot of money off repairs. for them to not give a loaner is an insuilt. $50,000 car and no loaner??? thats BS.

Also, does anybody know the lemon laws in NYS. Ive heard that if you have a problem that they cannot diagnose for 3 weeks or more then you are entitled to a new car. Is this true? and if it is. What would happen to my car. Its SGM and that means that it basically irreplaceable. |

Do you have only one BMW dealership around? I strongly recommend bringing your car for service in a different dealership. A problem is that not every dealership has equally well trained and experienced tech persons.

Update: So im just a bit more pissed now. I went into the dealer and my SA told me that on Friday the shop forman and the lead tech (they are the ones granted permission to touch my car) left to a BMW trade show. They will not be back until friday. Now I am seriously pissed and they better give me something nice when I get it back. No amount of angry smilies can make anger I feel lessen. But here is a try... :mad0 260:: mad0260::mad02 60: |

This is what I would do.....
Call into BMW NA and lodge a complaint--tell them that the dealer is not improving your situation, and that you do not feel as though your problem is a high priority to them. Ask (nicely) that they contact the dealer on your behalf to better resolve the situation. I wouldn't get your pops involved--you can handle it. At the same time, I would also ask (nicely), the next time you are at the dealer, to speak to the general manager of the dealership. If you are told he/she is not available, ask to make an appointment. Politely remind them that you are a paying customer that feels like a personal conversation with the general manager is warranted in your particular case. Then call or visit as many times as it takes--they will eventually give in to you, just to shut you up. I have learned, though experience, that reminding someone that being young (I was 26 when I got my first BMW, and I am 30 now) was not a bad thing, and that they should look at this like a relationship. If they treat me well, I will continue to come back. If they don't, and I would mention the current situation as an example of "don't", I will take myself and my next 15 car purchases else where. It usually does the trick. Good luck.

No full replacement. It was a few bearings that went in the top. So they replaced those. Ive put it down numerous times yesterday...we are rained out here on LI today. It seems fine from what I can tell.

Interesting... Did you ever seal/service the top with Raggtopp cloth top or similar products? I ask because they are supposed to shed water, and bearings, being either good or bad, needed to have something to cause them to go bad. Misalignment, I suppose could score them and cause issues, but water could definitely cause issues... If water was seeping into the bearings, they could potentially be mere pieces of rusty metal...
