Detroit this week...Anyone ??
Is there anyone who's getting into the Detroit show this week for industry preview days? I'm going Sat, the first day of the public show and I'm gonna have to break a window if the 135 isn't unlocked. Fingers crossed.

There was NO oil cooler equipped on the 135i coupe on the floor. Everyone will have to forgive me as my schedule was busy, but I didn't get a chance to check out the convertibles or the 128i. Nevertheless, here are my snapshots of the 135i in Sedona Red.
This one had Black leather with gray poplar wood and all three packages. The sport seats were much nicer and much more supportive than I expected. The adjustable side bolsters ROCK. I was very disappointed with some of the ergonomics of the car, namely the steering wheel covering the top half of the gauges when the seating and wheel are adjusted correctly, the window switches are too far aft to comfortably operate, and there is no useful ingress/egress handle on the door panel. The only door handle is the "hoop" near the front of the door, which lacks leverage to control the very strong detents. This car will be the instigator of many door dings wherever it parks, I will put money on it. The rear seats are tighter than the new MINI Clubman, not joking. Ingress and egress from the rear seats of the 1 is a disaster. Please don't plan on using the rear seats for people in your 1 series coupe. Also regarding the steering wheel covering the gauges, I'm 5'9" with a 30" inseam, which is pretty normal. I can only guess BMW is designing these cars for people that are 6'5" with a 40"+ inseam, the only way to see the gauges from my view is to put the steering wheel "way up there" close to eye level it seems, which is annoying. The car looks tight and compact in the flesh. I only comes into its own once people stop crowding around it and all the doors are shut. The surface treatment is very nicely executed; the exterior style is much better than in pictures.

Also of note, the EHPS reservoir has a new bottle, it's now cheaper looking but also will probably not leak like the old design.
mikeo: I would bet you'll be able to raise hell with BMW service and request your engine have the same oil cooler other markets are getting IF your car doesn't come with one. I wouldn't despair the money; after sitting in the sport seats, they alone are worth the price of the sport pack!

Actually, I believe my Service Manager, a very sympathetic guy, will install one under warranty provided BMWNA has a plan for the 135i similar to what they do for 335i owners. Only time will tell.

No kidding! That car was a 135i with the sport pkg. I am hoping the oil cooler is in a different spot.

Right, Chris. The oil coolers are in a different spot alright: back at the assembly line going into all the non-US 135i cars.

Not to beat a dead horse but you did look for the second cooler behind the passenger side bumper correct?
Maybe because this is a road show ho, the oil cooler didn't make the trip and could still show up on production cars?? |
