got a ticket for front license plate

Hey all,

I got a freaking ticket for not having front license plate by a bored as eff pig.
So I've searched this forum and found some threads about front license plate tickets, but none was specifically in California from what I could find.

Can someone (preferably in California) who's actually gotten a fix-it ticket for front license plates and installed tow hook plates and got that checked off by an officer without any questions or problems?

thanks in advance.

PS I'm considering Bimmian tow hook license plate holders.. any other suggestions?

It used to be that you could get away with no front plate forever, but policing has changed to maximize the number of stops for minor things in the hope of finding something more serious. The cops would just as soon set up roadblocks everywhere, but they can't so minor infractions are the next best thing.

that used cp-e is a good deal.

i have the us millworks http://www.usmillworks.com/bmw_front..._tow_hook.html

it's just a bolt and a mount. throw it on, be done. "bored as eff pig" = officer you gave pc to rifle through your car. be happy that ticket didn't turn into anything major.

Do all tow hook license plates need loctite? I want to buy one from Bimmian but it says I need to apply loctite which makes it semi-permenant.

I have the CPE towplate and after a year or so it wouldn't stay put and had to apply loctite. I used the semi-permanent one so i can still take it off just needs some extra elbow grease to do so. So far it's held just fine even at speeds up to 120mph.

Thanks. I'll probably try without loctite like you did and apply it when I feel like it's getting loose. My fear is it getting loose and scratching the crap out of the bumper which would defeat the purpose of trying not to drill two holes

Since it is just a fix it ticket, you can double-sided tape it, get it signed off, then remove. You risk getting pulled over for it again, but at least you won't have to put the front plate on.

That's what I did when I got my fix it ticket from a bored CHP cop.

I already ordered the tow hook plate a little ago. Would a pig really sign off on a double sided taped license plate?

My pig was CHP, too, not even a real pig.
Did the pig that signed off on your fix it ticket not ask you any questions? he must've noticed the double sided taped license plate?

Actually, I had two front bumper trim strips for my E30: One with a license plate frame, the other without... I swapped in the one with the frame to get the fix-it ticket signed off, then swapped the other one back in when I got home.

The CHP was a dick: I wasn't speeding, so he just pulled me over to give me the fix-it ticket out of frustration... A wallet-busting $10... LOL.

just use double sided 3m foam tape and mount directly to the bumper. that is what i did. in complete honesty, i like it more than the blank bumper. example: (not mine)

legitimately i would keep it this way given both options. just feels like it centers the car to me. and was like $3. i dont know if this will work for the fix it ticket but

BTW, if you ever watch the show "Dexter" on Showtime, you may notice that all the cars have front license plates. The show is set in Miami, and they appear to be Florida plates, but to a Floridian it looks really weird because Florida doesn't actually have a front plate law.

Only thing I can figure is the producers put them there to make it look more like the show is shot in Miami. Or perhaps it has something to do with California's front license plate law (like maybe they're required to have any kind of front plate on there, even during filming). (shrug)
