Got a quick update. Unfortunately a vendor purchased 2 of the thermostats whilst we were organising this so he has 8 left. I have already paid for everything already so will be contacting the first 8 on the list for payment. It is a 15% discount off RRP for this batch. The rest should hopefully be manufactured within 2 weeks time.

Hey Fuji,
Nah both batches will still get the discount as we are buying in bulk and also saving a substantial amount on shipping!

Hey everyone! Quick update.
The first batch of 8 has arrived today so I'll be sending 3 off to melb, 1 to Adelaide and the rest are for Sydney members. I have sent off an email to find out when the second batch will be completed and then I'll place the order as soon as that's done. I'm still missing payments from about 5-6 guys who have all been sent PMs or emails. If anyone else wants in, it's not too late.

Motor mounts are designed to absorb vibration from the engine. The stock ones are quite soft in order to isolate that vibration from the rest of the chassis but they twist under load which is why when you rev the engine with the hood open you can see the engine rocking about.
Changing to solid or stiffer motor mounts will reduce the engine movement when you apply load. This will improve engine response and reduce drivetrain loss but the tradeoff is increased NVH. With a smooth inline-6 it shouldn't be as bad as other motors. If you add solid or stiffer transmission mounts in conjunction with the upgraded engine mounts, you will get less movement between the engine and transmission which should allow for much smoother and easier shifts with a manual transmission. These mounts are not a solid aluminium but a polyurethane mount. It's an aluminium cage with a poly sleeve. Very stiff but with some absorption properties. I'm going to be installing them with some poly trans mounts (haven't decided whether to go with isolated or bolt through yet but I have both) and turner solid aluminium/delrin diff mounts. I already have the solid aluminium subframe bushings. Should be interesting.

The first batch is being posted off today to the members in Melbourne and Adelaide. I have received word from Andy that 15 units will be ready in 1 weeks time and another 20 another week after that. As we actually have 17 more units paid for at the moment and it is still below the AUD$1000 customs threshold, I may wait for all of them to be ready and then sent all together in one go. This means they will be posted to Sydney in about 2 weeks time. Thanks everyone for their patience.

I'm pretty keen to get one. I'm just trying yo get my head around how the N54 oil thermostat works. How does it know what the oil temp is? Is there a wax-filled component inside the housing somewhere? I like to get my head around how things work, so I can make my own judgement with products. I emailed Andy but got an auto-reply about a backlog of emails.
If this allows exactly the same warm-up speed to 90C as the factory thermostat, sounds like a winner. |
