iphone for the 1
So I have held off on getting the iphone even though I love the thing. Has anyone heard of a 2nd gen iphone in the works. I'd love to get new technology in time for my new car!

downsizing? I think the size is just fine. Its not too big and you can view internet pages exceptionally well. But I do agree about the 3G.

I realize that the iPhone has that "I gotta have it now" factor, but won't an iPod and Bluetooth enabled cell phone provide the same fuctionality (That is unless you plan on surfing the Internet while you drive)?
But to answer your question, there are rumors that Apple is hard at work on the next-gen iPhone. ETA - Unknown. Price - Probably high. |

The upgrade cycle is vicious, expensive, and basically a major PITA. You can easily go broke trying to have the latest and greatest. Still sometimes the temptation is just too hard to resist.

Everyone that I know that has one says the same thing about their iPhone, but the AT&T thing is a deal breaker for me and I'm not in the mood to hack it. I'm sure that there will eventually be other options (better phones and other carriers), but it does mean waiting.

Not everyone needs 3g...
Not everyone needs something better than edge... Not everyone needs GPS, my car has it... I've had my iPhone for about 3 months now and its worth its small weight in gold to me... I have wireless at work and at home. I cant drive and surf the web, so edge works fine for me... Between home and work, if I'm out and about, all I really use it for is e-mail, mapping directions, quick stock check, or quick weather check. Edge works fine for all of that as long as you have a good signal... I honestly dont see a new iPhone coming out for sometime. Maybe a different phone from Apple, sure, maybe an iPhone with more memory, why not? But the iPhone was made to be up-gradeable and Apple has hardly unlocked all of the features of the phone, they just unlocked video out a month ago. Those are my personal reasons for not seeing a new one coming out anytime soon... I waited for the price drop and went for it. Just make sure to insure it with State Farm, which is actually cheaper than lockline ($30/year no deductible vs $$60/year $50 deductible)...

^ I almost agree with you, but I've had problems with my integration system for my e46 (DICE). Not the iPhone's fault though...
Oh, and when I modded it, it kept locking up, but the modding got old; it was cool for about a week, so I'm back to OEM...

They're going to have to give me more storage if I'm buying that thing. 8 and 16 is a joke for an iPod especially if you already have a Classic or Video and intend to move all your data over to the iPhone.
I'm happy with my 30 gig iPod hooked in there plus my bluetooth headset. If they bump up the gigs to 30, then I'm down for it. |

3G iPhone is scheduled for release sometime mid-2008. I haven't heard of any other updates other than the 3G bump. I'll personally be waiting for this one since I DO have access to 3G in my area.

^ I guess I'm still new to the iPhone - iPod revolution. I've got every song I've ever downloaded since I was a kid, plus a ton of my digital photo's on my iPhone and I think I'm using just bearly over 1/2 of the memory on my 8gig iPhone...
I guess I dont see the point of downloading and watching movies on it. I cant imagine watching them on the even smaller iPod Classic screen. I would think hooking it up to a TV would be a PITA, just buy the DVD or rent it...
