Things to buy for my new 128i convertible

My new car is somewhere in SC and will be delivered to me on July 21 at the Performance Center. As I wait, I am reviewing the items I want to buy for it and have a pretty long list. I'm wondering how my list compares to yours. My list is:

Sunshade ~$40-60 depending on option
mud flaps ~$50
mats ~$90 (still don't know if the dealer is providing, keep forgetting to ask)
wind deflector ~$400 (by far most expensive item)
1 quart of oil and bag ~$10
GPS mount for Garmin GPS ~$55
Garmin 760 GPS ~$200
valve stem caps ~$20
jack ~$30
tint for windows and back glass ~$60 (install myself, done it before)
Pedals - SS or aluminum? - ~$120
Safety triangle $20
4" antenna $25
Matte Black Grills $90
Black emblem $20
Oil filter wrench $15
Zaino initial order ~$50

Suggestions?

Jim

Carpeted mats came with my car, but I also ordered the BMW custom rubber mats for the front only. (I don't anticipate any rear seat passengers on a regular basis.) Also have the plastic (or is it rubber?) trunk liner and it is really nice. Just got the wind deflector and it was well worth the expense. I got it from Morristown (NJ) BMW through eBayMotors. I paid $335 + $15 shipping. Enjoy your new ride!!

I intend to use the Garmin as something like an ipod. I will test this with my older Garmin nuvi 350 on the ride home from the performance center. Both the 350 and 760 will store MP3 files both on internal memory and on SD flash memory cards. You can take the signal out of the 3.5mm headphone socket into the aux port of the radio. At least that is what I do successfully in my truck. The Garmin lets you see the label information (name of album, performing artist, etc.) on the touch screen to pick out music. You can also have playlists. When you tie it in this way (or the 760 will broadcast a FM signal) you get the GPS instructions through the car speakers, music through the car speakers, and with the 760 you also have bluetooth phone working through the car speakers. Phone calls result in muted music, music is also turned down for GPS instructions (which are not given during phone calls). It seems like a pretty slick arrangement for the money so I am planning to give it a try.

Thanks for the tip on the windscreen, best I had seen was $385.

At least initially I am planning to make some jack adapters out of baltic birch plywood. If they work, I will try and post some dimensions and pictures. I'd like to have 4 or 5 and I have scraps of plywood and a pretty complete shop (for woodworking, not much for metal working).

I might have to add the trunk liner to my list. I have one for my SUV but was not planning it in the BMW since I will use the SUV for messy things. Stuff spills, however, so it would probably be a good idea.

Don't get the wind deflector. Its a waste of money. With the top down very little wind actually enters the cabin.

Spend that money on a CF Spoiler.

Disagree. Windblocker works great. If you have a wife with long hair it will be greatly appreciated.

I agree, my gf won't ride in it with the top down unless the wind deflector is up.

I plan to try it without the wind deflector but I am pretty sure I will end up with it. I want to be able to drive to work which includes about 15 miles on the interstate and a total of 20 miles at 55 mph or more and not look too messed up when I get there. My curly hair likes any excuse to get wild. I liked the test drives which included top down time on the interstate but I thought it was a bit windy. But I did not have the rear windows up so I need to try it that way too.

I went a month or so without a wind deflector, figuring I didn't really need one. Then I got one and found that it really does make a difference - for passenger and driver.

Get it - it's one of the best upgrades you can buy for under $500.

I absolutely agree about the wind deflector. It makes a huge difference in a very positive way. Go for it!

I know it's just the 128 and not the TT, but you will need this stuff eventually...

-Escort Passport 9500ci
-Laser Interceptor
-VEiL

Let's be honest with ourselves here...you really think you will maintain PSL with a new 1-series?

Also, I agree with nordique14 about that car cover...great idea!

+1 I love the SmartTOP Module. If anybody is curious on it, they can read more about it here:

smartTOP Roof Top Control for 1-series (e88) Convertible
http://www.europeanautosource.com/pr...oducts_id=2253

Operate Top While Driving
Forget about the days you had to pull over to open or close your convertible top! Thanks to smartTOP you can now open or close your top while driving at speeds up to 35 mph.

One-Touch Power Top
With the smartTOP one-touch convertible top automation you no longer need to hold the top button to open or close your convertible top. Now you can tap the button and your top opens or closes automatically. This feature also allows your hands to remain free and you are able to focus on your driving.

If you have any questions feel free to let me know
