The swiss limitation period is 3 years. German authorities will help the swiss guys to get you identified but they'll not enforce swiss law and i guess it's the same with the US.
So if I am traveling to Zurich in 2021 will I run the risk of being stopped at customs/passport control? If it the ticket isnt valid by then. I sure as hell wouldnt pay it.

Just like the others said, pay it off. Trying to enter the country is what you should be concerned about or any other EU nation, i.e. if they share the information. Why would anyone want to risk their vacation/ business travel for a couple of 100's that you chose not to pay in the past?

No i don't think they'll stop you then. If you go to ZH in 2021 your speeding ticket from today is invalid. If you stole money or did some other kind of criminal stuff the period is basically 5 years. If you plan to rape swiss maidens better wait a bit more...

Flee the country, change your name and SS number, move to a new home, adopt a new family, and get a hair cut.

Was it in a rental car? If so, I'd be concerned if you don't pay the rental agency will charge your credit card on file.

Sorry for off-topic... ZH is a bit special. I like the natural look of the city but it's only a nice surface. Most people over there are just money-driven a$$holes and prices in general are somewhat crazy. So i do understand what you say. When it comes to driving the whole country of Switzerland is PITA so i'm always happy to cross the border in the evening and go WOT on the Autobahn...

During a trip to Italy and France last year I probably seen close to 2 dozen flashes from speed cameras on the highways. We mentioned this to one of the B&B owners at a place we stayed at. He recommended canceling whatever credit card we used when we booked our rental car as soon as we returned home. Also during our trip some police officers that were walking past said something about our license plate on our rental. It looked as though someone (not us) had used a marker or something and colored in one of the letters on the license plate! Which is illegal apparently. We told them it was a rental car, and they just walked away. You can see the letter D has been colored in, the front license plate was the same. Anyway it's been well over a year and we never received anything about speeding violations.

What was the fine for 20 over? Also curious, when was your ED and how long did it take to get the ticket?

thanks!
15 over (they give 5 kph grace period). I did the ED in June and got the ticket either end of July or August in the beginning.

There needs to be a sticky on how to officially pay these shits.
I did mine beginning of Aug but I've read of some people getting them like 6 months later.

At least 3 months.

This was a speed camera FWIW. Stevie Wonder would have known what it was just by the flash. (at night, entering a tunnel)

Don't pay it.......... When was the camera last calibrated? If you do pay it, send them the fine as a bucket of pennies or dimes. The EU won't last much longer.. Wait it out until the EU Parliament in Brussels implodes (they're bankrupt) or the EU Parliament corruption is exposed, or the refugees take over the place. Switzerland maybe left standing by all the banks based there, but 12 months from now your ticket will be the least of their problems.

I would pay it but I do honestly wonder if they have any access to your passport # to actually stop you the next time you came in. With any luck they'd also be able to see how much $$$ I spent in their country and they would happily let me back in despite a ticket on my record

What the hell is wrong with you people??

You break it, you buy it. You speed and get caught, you pay it. It's that simple folks.

If you don't like their rules, stay out of their freakin country.

And this from Belgium .
Just screw the Euro suckers , because I'm really tired of all these hidden speed cams all over the place and always paying for those thieves !
They say it's for our safety....Right my ass !
They got me after work in front of a school , speed limit was 50 km/h and I drove 55 km/u but it was about 22:45 PM and it was a school for children from 3-10 year old .
But wait now....Little children doing night shift in school ?
C'mon just screw the money suckers with all the insane driver taxes on top of it !
Soon we need to pay to breath the air outside ...
Fuck the Euro , Belgium the most and God bless America !

Got a speeding camera ticket in Switzerland...do I have to pay?

Yes, you will have to pay it!

You guys do not wanna mess with the Swiss! They take speeding very seriously. In fact IF they catch you going more than 40 kph OVER any of their speed limits, say like doing 122 outside the city on a country road.... then can and will TAKE YOUR CAR. As in... it is now theirs.

They have ridiculous rules. They have so many tunnels with lowered speed limits(just before you enter the tunnel) and then back up to 100 or 120 kph afterwards. And they also have a law, that says the speeding fine can be a percentage of your income! Its crazy. After all a lousy 500ml Coke will set you back 6 euros in Switzerland. So speeding is not cheap. I have heard stories of people doing 123 in a 120 and the fine was 140 euros!

IF you get a ticket from the Swiss... PAY IT! Its no joke.

I know like in Germany, they have to flash you from the front... and they have to send you the ticket within three months. But some countries like Italy or Switzerland(?) can take up to ONE YEAR to send you the ticket. Also... they do not have to "flash" you from the front of the car... they do it as you pass a large box on the highway or from behind a road sign. Unless you know there is a camera... your a dead duck.

Any US Bank knows how to wire a euro bill payment. Problem is it isn't cheap in the USA. Most banks will charge you a $60 transfer fee.

In Europe we don't pay by paper checks... everything is online and done via electronic bank wires(transfers). The US has some catching up to do.

Good Luck,
Dackel

You obviously are not that big of a dick, but it's related.

Follow the laws in every foreign country you visit. I got a ticket in Switzerland and paid it the week I got it in the mail.
Chill with the prejudice and racism.

I don't see how going 15kph (9mph) over the limit on an interstate that travels through multiple countries relates to those asshole sons of rich Arab diplomats who drive like dickheads in neighborhoods (trust me, there are plenty of them in DC as well, so I know how they are). Do you drive the speed limit everywhere you go? I highly doubt that, so keep your hypocrisy to yourself.

Regarding those diplomats, they are above our law because our government asked to be above their laws for our ambassadors. Yes, it sucks because they endanger our people, but it is a nice luxury that our diplomats get when they live overseas...unfortunately for us.
