Any Onewheel Owners Here?

Anyone? Hello?

Thinking of getting one for "last mile" commuting when it's too damp or cold to ride my motorcycle. The subway gets me out of downtown in 10 minutes and drops me about 3 miles from my house. An excellent, paved, urban bike trail gets me to within a mile of my house. Easy side streets after than.

I'd prefer a e-skateboard but they seem to pretty much universally suck when it's damp out.

Hoping someone out there has some real world experience with these to share and help me make a decision.

Well I also drive a BMW so I guess the general public already views me as a douche. Not losing sleep over that. Besides, my option is:

A) Be a onewheel riding douche who makes it home from the subway in 15 minutes.

B) Be a non-douche who waits in the rain for 20 minutes for the bus. Takes a 30 minutes bus ride. Then a 5 minute walk.

I want one, but I can run faster than it goes so for the price I haven't made it a priority.

You might also want to check out electric unicycles. More speed power and range.

Also, not getting something because you think it makes you look like a douche is very silly. If something's worth getting, it's worth getting.

Agreed. Me too. Unfortunately, the subway at rush hour is F*CKING packed and the stupid escalators and elevators are frequently broken. Meaning I have to carry my 40 pound e-bike up or down 3 flights of stairs, then cram myself and my bike into a loaded train car. It's just a hassle.

Let's be honest. 50% of the justification here is practicality and 50% is just because I like fun toys.

I recently purchased an electric scooter. 20-30 miles on a charge and 25mph max speed. I use it to drive to/from work. Pretty cool toy, just wish it was a bit faster.

You want to go FASTER than 25 on that thing?

An electric scooter like that is definitely in the running as well. Does it fold up for easy transport? How's it do over semi-rough terrain? Noting crazy like dirt, grass, or gravel, but I'll encounter the occasional patch of gravel or pebbles kicked up onto the asphalt, cracks or bumps in the asphalt from tree roots pushing it up, puddles, etc.

I live a quarter mile at a time... and need a bit more than 25mph to hit those 10 seconds

The scooter folds in half. This is actually my second one - this one is more durable, better shocks and more power (but substantially heavier), RWD.

If you are looking at something lighter I would recommend Segway ES2 with battery pack. The speed is about 20mph, but substantially lighter with FWD.

It's funny, rental electric scooters like this have seemingly popped up overnight in cities all over the world. Bird and Lime are the rental scooters around here. I can see the appeal of using them for getting around short distances, however these rentals litter the sidewalks where riders choose to leave them. I can imagine the fees add up quick for those using the rentals day in and day out. For an urban commuter, I would think it would be more cost effective to buy their own as you did.

It's faster, can go further, can tackle rough terrain, and does not explode when you charge it.

The Onewheel gets you in at maybe a 3.

They're two totally different things for different purposes. Hoverboards suck for almost everything and not just because they're slow. The one-wheel is supposed to be pretty fun with all the advantages stated above.
