Thanks for sharing. Being stationed near Death Valley, I did the same thing in the Phantom quite often 40 years ago. Thanks for the memories.

Not only did I get to see F 22's fly in South Carolina, I also got to see a squadron parked at the Hilton head airport.

Are you certain you weren't seeing the F-35s being flown out of MCAS Beaufort (training home for Marine aviators flying the new jet)? Because I saw quite a few of those in the skies during my recent trip to Hilton Head.

RAF and Italian Air Force pilots are also training on the F-35 there.

My first thought on hearing them was f/a 18's. But the tail setup is distinctive. and I saw them at the Hilton Head airport, gold canopies and all. I took a picture then also, but my phone focused on the raindrops of my window instead of the airplanes.
