1 series coupe. A classic!

As the one series coupe era is officially closed and replaced by the new 2 series coupe.
I wonder whether the 1 coupe is gonna become a collector car or a classic as no 1 series coupe existed before and no 1 series coupe will ever exist after. This is one of its kind coupe.
What do you think? Should we keep our car in the garage;-)

If i had a 1 series coupe would keep it. I actually see myself buying one 5-10 years from now.

Not to shit on anyone's point and I love my car, but as soon as you build more than
1X,XXX copies of a car it can no longer become a classic. If anything the 1M will be the classic.

definitely going to have a cult following in the future. Jalopnik thinks it is the 'next E30'....I'm not sure about that, but I was surprised and how enthusiastic it's owners currently are.

I have had my TT for 10+ years and am confident the MK1 TT is a sure fire classic.....I don't think the 1er is in that category.....but will be more of a 'cult' car IMO

I think it'll certainly be a very sought after car.. But i think it's going to turn into the next gen e36.. AKA they're going to all be turned into track whores.

1M's and 135is will hold value above all the other 1's. 135i's will definitely be the best bang for your buck tuning and performance wise, and 128's will remain driving purists/enthusiasts cup of tea, IMO.

This is just another mass produced BMW. Only classic is the 1M.

Once my warranty expires, my 128 will be turned into a dedicated Autocross, Track and Time Trial car.

I wouldn't be surprised if 10-15 years down the road a 1 Series Spec racing group gets developed....right next to a Spec FRS/BRZ

I predict another 15-17 years before the 1-series coupe/convertible becomes classic. A lot of them have to die before then.

The 2002 was mass produced... And it's an undisputed classic.

yep. mass production has SOME meaning in terms of actual pricing not going up as much as more limited edition cars....but there are such things as 'affordable classics' and many mass produced cars enter that category.

For example, the E30 M3 has been stable in the $20-30k range for a few years now....but nice E30s are also climbing to $10k or above quite regularly now.

I was thinking the same, the 1-er reminds me of a future spec e30/944

True, but the last 2002 model year was 1976, that's 37 years ago.

The 1er might make "classic" status, but it will take a long time. I wouldn't bother hiding it in the garage for all that time. Just be happy we get to drive and enjoy them today. Who knows, in 30 years driving might even be threatened.

I hope so, but I keep my car in the garage in either case, and out of the salt

1M is already a collectors item. I think in time, the 135is will be more like what a E46 ZHP is now. Rare, yet not prohibitively expensive. I think all E82/E88s will hold their value pretty well. Mass-produced or not, the number of 1-series sold in the US is very low compared to BMWs other lines, especially the 3-series.

Oh for crying out loud. Drive yer damn cars and enjoy them. Unless you have a 1M, don't worry about it. I don't think the 1-er will be on Chasing Classic Cars any time soon.

Oh my. I suppose only time will tell.

I plan on owning this car for the entire forseeable future though, so it doesn't matter much to me.

I don't see the 135is commanding a big premium over a 135i M-sport in the future. If the car is sought after, people will be looking to mod it anyway so the factory mods on the 135is will be irrelevant.
