e88 antenna??

ok so I have a e88 .. and I have a stupid remote control car looking antenna coming out the left rear of the car.. and I also have a shark fin in the middle of my trunk... ??
is the fin a dummy antenna?? whats the purpose of having both??
and .. can I get rid of the rc looking antenna? I know I can buy a stubby.. but sheesh it looks terrible.

The RC antenna is AM/FM and Shark Fin is for Sirius/Nav. Not sure why they didn't Incorporated the AM/FM into the shark fin or AM in glass. Anyways, I got this one and I love it. Is not completely out of the way but is way better than the long dated one. https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...lX-xoCIPXw_wcB

I got a carbon fibre stubby antenna from eBay for about $15 when my 4 year old son broke the OEM ridiculously long antenna. My radio reception is noticeably worse, or at least it would be if I ever used the radio.

I'd check the shark fin is connected to anything. I've got the e88 msport with full sat Nav etc, but no shark fin. Some people put them on because they think it looks good.

On the convertible, I think it looks shocking.

XQX.. so the carbon fiber one is a downgrade???
I wonder if the stubby from ecs tuning that's posted above gives good reception or if its ghetto like the carbon fiber one..
I do use the radio a lot so I need a good antenna ;(

I bought about the cheapest carbon fiber look antenna on ebay. I think it was like 8 dollars shipped. Its a 4 inch stubby antenna and I haven't noticed any difference in radio reception. Looks way better as well.

I haven't noticed any real difference personally. I lied about the price. It was almost 10 shipped. lol I almost bought BMW stubby antenna but decided to go the cheap route as I liked the carbon accent. Completely satisfied with my decision. That's what I bought.

yeah, well I figured, it's 10 bucks. If it doesn't work... who cares. I'll get something else.

I think you should be fine with the cheap one, you are in the city so almost anything would do the job. If you were in a more rural setting then I would worry more about performance. Try the 10 bucks one first and go from there.

I bought the short stubby one on eBay as well and radio reception is just fine. My 2008 convertible does have SatNav and I do have the Shark Fin on the trunk.

bought the stubby cf antenna.. the fitment is horrible.. will have to shorten the adapter screw and also shorten the side that goes to car.. seems also like Im gonna have to force the side to the antenna .. the (antenna side seems to fit the antenna fem well.. but then the opposing side wont fit the car well... if they would of put antenna male to antenna male same size it would of worked perfect,, does ur phone still work with the ebay antenna ???????

I purchased a short CF of eBay and it fits and works great. Although I don't tune to AM/FM/HD channels much.

I have an extra BNIB if you want it. If you ever get a meet going in the Palm Beach area I'll give it to you.

I got a replacement antenna but when I tried to unscrew the old one the bolt broke clean off! However the reception is just fine, so I don’t really know what to do. Half the broken bolt is totally flush so I can’t get it out. Thoughts?

Go to your local auto hardware/tool store, and ask for an E-Z out drill bit. Basically, it's a reverse thread drill bit . So when you use it with an electric drill, in reverse, it will grab the bolt and remove it. The bolt will need to be tapped first with a small normal drill bit to give the E-Z out something to grab on to. You might want to use some PB Blaster or other penetrating lubricant on the bolt threads first, if they are rusted. Be carful not to scratch your car, as the process may involve some slippage at first as you try to get the EZ out bit to grab. Put plenty of masking tape around the area for protection.
