Cup Holders In American 1er

Will the American 1 Series have the "pop out" cupholders like the 3 series does? That is one of my favorite features!

not certain about us, however from European pix it appears there is a solid plug-in cup holder. There are photos somewhere around here.

The ones I've seen from Europe indicate 2 cupholders in the console for non-iDrive form and 1 with the iDrive.

Will they hold the 7-11 2 liter Big Gulp or will you have to settle for the smaller 1.18 liter slurpee?

In the 128 - the slurpee will fit - the 135i is restricted to .5 litre water only - car won't start when corn syurp is present in the interior.

Those 3 Series cupholders are the dumbest idea I've seen. First, even when tucked away they are way-too-conspicuous blemishes on an otherswise nice dash. Second, I'd hate to be the passenger with two large back coffees dangling above my knees when all the sudden a surprise speed bump or pothole comes out of nowhere.

Way too much emphasis is put on cupholders -- DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE!!!

Too many drive-throughs and too much eating/drinking/snacking. Eat at home. Drive in your car.

My minivan is constanly littered with juice boxes and snack wrappers (healthy snacks, thank God). Apparently my otherwise fantastic wife thinks kids can't go for a 20-minute car ride without eating or drinking. And why do people need 5-gallon sodas (and thus cupholders to hold them)?

We've got a problem here people...

See, I just don't get that. :bangdesk:

I don't want to bring along my 5-gallon, huge, fat American soda. Some of us actually commute and take trips in our cars (45 min - 1 hour) and want a place to put a freakin' regular-sized drink!! What is wrong with that? :drinking:

I swear, everyone needs to calm down when people ask about something as simple and practical as a cup holder....

While you're at it, why don't you just eliminate the radio too? Heaven forbid that take away from your sacred enjoyment of driving.

My Audi A4 has a neat pop-out cup holder. Really an intriguing design.

Of course, it pops out right above the stereo and A/C controls. So any cold drink is going to drip condensation all over your radio.

It was put there to satisfy marketing weenies who insisted that the American market requires cupholders, but it was implemented in a way that you'd have to be stupid to use it!

A friend of mine has a 335i with the popouts. He hates them beyond what words can describe. On 2 occasions he has had a passenger hit them with their knee, both times it spilled liquid (coke and coffee) all over the car, AND broke the cupholder. The holder is made fairly cheaply and breaks often. In a year, he has replaced 5 of them. If we are getting the cupholders, I'm glad they are in the center console. The 335 popouts SUCK

Who ever invented cup holders in cars should be hung at dawn. It's interesting that ten years ago BMW's did not have cup holders.

I know this because my E34 does not have them. In my E46 I took them out and replaced them with the European center console.

The American fascination with cupholders is because we have 2 hour commutes at 5mph and boring interstates with 100 miles between rest stops with only vending machines. In Europe rest stops are every 25 miles or so and they have nice cafes and they commute 15 min. Drive from Champaign to Chicago with only 1 rest stop in between and you would eat in your car too.

If i was on a long trip when i was younger with the family. My dad said 'hold onto it!'. We, of course, were in a bmw, so i learned to hold it between my legs hehe. I don't trust cup holders. I have found a few good ones that support the drink well and you don't have to worry about anything jolting it slightly or tipping it that will result in some sort of small spill. So yes, for long trips, it is nice at times to have a good one. I do agree the pop outs are a nice idea, but the design needs to be worked on, both placement and quality.

I'm with you...I have to take screwdriver in hand and remove that darned cup holder in the MINI, before guys travel with me. With the way I drive it would cause knee damage. Additionally, If I didn't have a severe latte habit, I'd get rid of it permanently like most of my friends have done.

speaking of bad cup holders who here has a Z4. there is only 1 cup holder and it is on the passengers side dash. is a huge pain when I wake up a 3 am to go to a track day with the Z4M coupe and I almost drive off the road every time I grab for my coffee.

My dad did not allow food or drink in the car, and neither do I. In fact I make some people take their muddy shoes off as well.

It's a car for pete's sake not a cafeteria.

Look to the left of the steering wheel (under the vent) for the driver's cupholder.
