obd2 connection fail
Hi guys, first post and first time bmw owner/driver. Recently picked up a 2011 135i. Wanting to know as much as I could about the car has brought me here to read about others experience and there is a wealth of info from others 1'ers, but also understanding the car through its data port.
I bought an inexpensive scanner, ToolPRO Auto Diagnostic Scanner OBD2, https://www.supercheapauto.com.au/p/...er/642358.html I believe it also goes by autophix om129 pro, https://www.autophix.com/product/om129-pro Well it at least looks the same. Anyway when I try to connect, it gets to a screen where it says entering system and looks to be cycling through connection protocols then gets to a certain point which the loads a list of those protocols. No matter which one I try it always fails to connect. I have tried with ignition on engine off and ignition on engine on but no luck. Is the scanner simply not able to access or is there another issue? Sorry but the pics are sideways but for some reason they aren't on the pc |

I've seen the Carly app but was hoping that this would work, I'm not sure why it doesn't hence the question. I thought maybe someone had come across this issue before. It seems it is trying to find the right connection protocol. I have searched fairly extensively, well at least I think I have and the only protocol I could see being used in this particular model was iso9141-2, but that doesn't work either. I'm not overly fussed about paying for a yearly subscription at this stage if I can get this to work which doesn't seem likely at the moment.

So I got this working. What I was doing wrong is I didn't have ignition on, I only had the fob pushed in. I didn't realise that is only accessories on and you need to push the start button with foot off the brake to get it to ignition on state. So scanner works as it should.
