Engine and transmission mount replacement

I am thinking about replacing the engine and transmission mounts with the 034Motorsport's Density Line Mounts. As far as I know there is nothing wrong with the stock ones in my 2009 128i (103,000km) its just that I would like to firm things up and improve the overall feel of the drivetrain. Good idea or a waste of money?

Does anybody know roughly how many hours it would take a shop to do the work?

Thanks!

Transmission mounts are a 30 minute job. I used E46 M3 mounts and didn’t notice much difference, though I am still on stock engine mounts. The 1-2 shift under hard acceleration is slightly smoother with the M3 trans mounts.

I've done the tranny mount (rogue), it will help a bit with shifter slop, but as you are thinking, it's a better idea to do together with the engine mounts.

I was very interested in the 034 density line as I want to keep things daily driveable and refined, but I read a few reviews of these mounts falling apart after a few thousand miles. THey are OEM housing with more dense rubber core. I'm not sure if they have sorted the issues out but I didn't want to deal with the hassle.

Some folks have put in a 335is mount on the exhaust side with good results. At your mileage maybe just factory fresh mounts with the upgrade to a 335is mount would be good enough..

You can estimate a motor mount time by looking up shop labor for an oil pan gasket. Slightly less involved, but both require the subframe to be dropped.

Trans mounts are extremely easy. You hold the trans up with a jack, unbolt the mounts, unbolt the crossmember, put in the new mounts, bolt the crossmember back up.

I opted for OEM motor mounts. I figured the added NVH and questionable reliability weren't worth the hassle for a street car. I have Corteco motor mounts and Genuine E46 M3 trans mounts.

Interesting! Did you install the motor mounts yourself? Did you notice an improvement? Where the stock mounts still in good shape? It's the unknown labour cost that worries me!

Yes did them myself. The old ones were still good, but I noticed an improvement with the new ones. Did at like 105k miles.

Thanks! How long would you estimate for a competent shop do do the motor mount swap? Are we talking 2 to 3 hours or a whole day?

Competent shop could definitely have it done in 3-4 hours. With a lift it's pretty easy.

On my back with jack stands, doing motor mounts + oil pan gasket it took all day, with many breaks though (because my friend brought over his Oculus Rift for my driving sim lmao)

Transmounts are easy 20 min job if you are familiar with the under trays. For the motor mounts they are less than two hours.

The easies way is to remove the top mount busts first.
Attach engine support.
Lift car remove all the under trays
Undo all four mount bolts
Loosen all the subframe bolts approximately 1-1.5 inches allowing sub frame to drop.
Pull mounts and replace
Start bolts for the mounts
Secure nut on top of the mount
Gradually tighten subframe bolts making sure that mounts stay in place
Torque subframe bolts
Snug top mount bolts
Torque mounts replace under trays
Torque top mount nuts

Depending on tools you may need to move power steering reservoir

Easy process lift helps
Some say to replace hardware for the subframe
