Thermostat problem

Water pump crapped out last week.i ordered the parts and discovered they sent a thermostat for n55 which has a different port compared to a n54?one of the hoses doesnt connect in the same direction.everything else is the same.
My question is could i reinstall the old thermostat?or use the n55 thermostat and make sure there is no flow restriction due to the different port direction?
I contacted the company but i wont recieve the proper thermostat until end of the week.

Wait til the correct one arrives. You only want to taste coolant doing this job once lol
