Chances of a bare bones M1?
Based on what seems to be the statement BMW is making with the M1, what are the chances of a trim level that offers no creature comforts?
In a perfect world, I'd like one that has one Heat, A/C, and a basic radio with an ipod jack. I'd even prefer manual windows and door lock, but that is obviously never going to happen. Any potential for an M1 Track spec that LOWERS the price, not raises it a la M3 GTS style? The Genesis 2.0 R Spec comes to mind, Hyundai has something nice to offer with that thing. |

I doubt you 'll ever get manual windows or locks. But You might be lucky and get one without iDrive or power seats.

All the E 30 M3s basicly came optioned the same, only the exterior and interior colors varied. Since there is no talk of a factory 1 series racing vehicle, the bones won't be that bare.

The M3 CSL (e46) had no heated seats or nav options. Radio and air conditioning were options, and not included on the base car. There was also reduced weight via sound deadening and trunk refinement (trim) omissions.
The e36 M3 Lightweight was similar, and the base car omitted radio, A/C, rear seat, sound deadening. I highly doubt that the M1 would eschew with those creature comforts, but it's not totally unheard of. Also, all of those CSL/lightweight cars did still have power windows. |

There won't be enough time in the E82 M1 lifecycle to produce a CSL version, but I could see an F20 CSL or USA specific LTW edition come out especially if this car becomes popular on the track/auto-x.

this request reminds me of the EVO RS. no ac, no power locks, windows, spoiler, just lighter cheaper Evo, built with a racecar in mind.
they only sold them in white and red, i have not seen many around. |
