that seems really pricey

if you already have an android device that particular setup would cost:
$40 OBDII cable
$3 OTG cable
$99 flasher module
$49 stage II map
$49 e30 map

$240 and 30-40 minutes of your time

if you want the monitoring module so you can see gauges on the device and log runs, it's an additional $69

if you don't have an android device, there are several cheap tablets available online for i think around $50

either way i would highly encourage you to do it yourself, the process is extremely simple and even if you start from scratch the cost would be less than $450

not really experienced with JB4 but i think it's $79 for both the flasher and backend map. i suggest asking on e90 or n54tech

Getting ready to flash my vehicle. Question, did you leave your door open while doing the flash? Thanks.

hopefully this helps anyone considering the app.

finally had a chance to install the MHD tuning flash today

installed stage 1 map. very happy with the results. car feels much stronger, especially in the higher rpm ranges. pulls much harder and is noticeably quicker.

total investment = $154.83 (returned the battery charger)

current specs:
  • 2009 135i N54
  • ~80,000 miles
  • completely stock, not even a walnut blasting yet

installation tools:

installation is very straight forward. made sure to use a battery charger as the entire process takes ~40 minutes and have read drops in voltages can cause errors.

no convenient electrical outlet at my apartment complex so had to run a long extension cable

#apartmentproblems

battery charger

cables

OBD-II cable lights up

MHD app automatically opens

Back up stock ECU map

Purchased flasher module and stage 1 map (this includes stage 1 and stage 1+)

Selected Stage 1 map to do "full write" - switch phone to airplane mode

Flashing process - at first the car chimes and a few different symbols pop up on the dash but goes away

Flash write completed - process took 39 minutes

doesn't matter if you leave it open or not. last time i updated the map i left the window open but closed the door. note, your car will flash some lights and make a few sounds, thats nothing to worry about.

one thing to make sure not to do is push the key during the process (dumb i know, but without thinking i did that and it turns off the ECU and interrupts the flash). you'll have to start over from the beginning if you do that.

B!immersoftware cable

Take out the ! and replace with an I.

The Amazon and ebay cables are hit and miss so I wouldn't waste your time trying to source a cheaper alternative.

Are people running version 4 maps or 5?

I just tried v5 but it failed. Flashed stage 1 v4 and worked ok.

i would double check if LG p769 supports OTG usb, from my quick google search i see results suggesting that it does not

an alternative solution is to pick up a cheap no-name android tablet from amazon, granted you'll have access to a wi-fi hotspot where you're performing the flash installation

The Google Nexus 7 supports OTG and is not too expensive. I got the base base model and it's been solid. I just keep it in my glovebox and pull it out when ready to flash. Works great!

great, thanks for sharing! the nexus is definitely a solid tablet.

would be wonderful if someone could develop a bluetooth solution capable of supporting the amount/rate of data transmitted with the MHD software. i know there are existing bluetooth OBD devices but don't believe they are compatible.

flashing and particuarly gauge monitoring via bluetooth would make for a nice clean cord-free cabin

gauge monitoring is fine via Bluetooth. Heaps of OBD2 monitors available out there on Google Play and Apple Appstore. I use Torque Pro - works well
